Description
Their performance in Japan in 1972 brought the ideal image of brass rock to Japan, and also produced the official traditional album “LIVE IN JAPAN.” Along with the official live album, the highest peak version of the sound board and pro shots that symbolized the time is now available. What is recorded in this work, which is just like the official version, is the “June 8, 1972: Nippon Budokan” performance. This is a 3-disc set with the sound board recording on DISC 1-2 and the multi-camera professional shot on DISC 3. As mentioned above, the official live album “LIVE IN JAPAN” is also left, so let’s first check each other’s positions from the schedule at that time.・June 7th: Nippon Budokan ・June 8th: Nippon Budokan ←★This work★ ・June 10th: Osaka Festival Hall ←※Official edition・June 11th: Osaka Festival Hall ←※Official edition・June 12th: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium ・June 13th: Kyoto Kaikan ・June 14th: Osaka Festival Hall ← * Official version 7 performances in total. Although it was an unusual schedule with more performances in Osaka than Tokyo, the official live album was created from those three performances in Osaka. On the other hand, this work was on the second day of Budokan just before that. Such a show could become a symbol because the television broadcast was left behind, but this work is its highest peak. First up is a 2-disc live album (DISC 1-2). It seems that the source is the same broadcast, but the master is said to be the highest quality among the many remaining air checks. In fact, it sounds really great. Although it is difficult to say that it is completely official because it is monaural, it can be said that it is at an excavation level. The noiseless sound of the horn is just so glossy, and the close contact that is unique to a sound board allows it to be adjusted into your brain. And the video edition (DISC 3) is also excellent. It is a different master from the live album version (DISC 1-2), and although it is unsuitable for a live album because there is a slight playback distortion of the tape, the visual beauty is the highest in existence. If the colors are vivid, even the outlines of the Japanese characters (!) added to the band introduction and lyrics are clear. That’s the freshness that makes it feel like the broadcast waves of the time have reached you directly across time and space. What is depicted in such a sound board album & pro shot is exactly “another LIVE IN JAPAN” and a show that becomes “LIVE IN JAPAN to watch with your eyes”. Since the sets are similar and different, let’s organize them while comparing them. ・Chicago’s Journey: Beginnings/Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?/Questions 67 & 68/I’m a Man・Chicago and 23 Oaths: Make Me Smile/Now More Than Ever/Fancy Colors (★)/25 or 6 to 4・Chicago III: Mother (★)/Lowdown/Free・At Carnegie Hall: A Song For Richard And His Friends・Chicago V: State Of The Union/Dialogue (Part 1 & Part 2)/Saturday In The Park *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard on the official work “CHICAGO LIVE IN JAPAN”. …and it looks like this. Basically, it’s “AT CARNEGIE HALL + CHICAGO V” just like the official version “LIVE IN JAPAN”. A collection of masterpieces from the Golden Age, which truly concentrate the essence of brass rock, are lined up in a row, and Terry Kath passionately plays and sings them. Since then, CHICAGO has continued to play wonderful music, changing in various ways, but this high purity that does not make you feel any hesitation is unique to the early 70’s. Moreover, the scene is here in Japan. You can experience such a historical show with the highest quality that you can currently hope for. Soundboards and professional shots from the Golden Age are not only special to us Japanese, but also valuable worldwide. A 3-disc set where you can enjoy the best masters at once.
