Description

CHEAP TRICK made their legendary first visit to Japan in 1978 and that “AT BUDOKAN” took the world by storm. A masterpiece video that allows you to experience the scene at the time is now available. There are two performances included in this work. This is a shocking audience shot of “July 22, 1978 + December 26, 1978 Fresno Performance”. Currently, a number of masterpiece videos born from Fresno in the 1970s are attracting attention, and this work is the CHEAP TRICK edition. Each of the previous masterpieces was a shock, but this one stands out from the rest. After all, you can experience “1978” on-site, which is too special for CHEAP TRICK. In order to explain its meaning, let’s first check the positions of the two performances from the schedule at the time when their fate changed significantly.・January 2nd – 21st: North America #1 (8 performances) ・March 7th – April 2nd: Europe (19 performances) ・April 20th: Pocatello performance ・April 25th – May 1st : First visit to Japan (6 performances)《“HEAVEN TONIGHT” released on May 24th》》・May 26th – October 1st: North America #2 (72 performances) ←★Here: Undercard★《“AT” released on October 8th BUDOKAN” released》・December 7th-17th: North America #3 (10 performances)・December 26th-31st: North American #4 (6 performances)←★Headliner★ This is CHEAP TRICK’s 1978. The final performance location of “IN COLOR TOUR” was Japan, where their symbol “AT BUDOKAN” was born. However, that release was a little later, and before that they announced “HEAVEN TONIGHT”. So we embarked on a US tour. The two Fresno performances included in this work are both “HEAVEN TONIGHT TOUR” North American tours, but their meanings are very different. The main “December 26th” performance is the first day of “North America #4” at the end, and the “July 22nd” which was added as a bonus is the 36th performance of “North America #2” 5 months ago. did. The reason why the “December 26th performance” is the main recording is because the recording time is long, even though the chronology is reversed. This is the point, in fact, the “July 22nd performance” performance was short because of FOREIGNER’s undercard performance (by the way, the FOREIGNER version of this day can be enjoyed in “Uxbridge 1213″ released at the same time). On the other hand, the main “December 26th performance” is a show that became the headliner after “AT BUDOKAN”. To go into more detail, “AT BUDOKAN” was not released in the United States until February 1979, and at this point it had not yet climbed the US charts. However, at that time, imported records from Japan were a big hit (estimated to have sold over 30,000 copies). This work is not only a valuable and superb video, but also a fixed point observation at the same venue before and after the “thin film of success” is broken. Moreover, this work is truly a “fixed point”. The common characteristics of the Fresno series have been repeated in previous works, so I will avoid them, but one of them is the spectacular scenery. Although not all of them, most of them are taken from the right side of the stage with no obstructions and the viewpoint is at the same height as the members on the stage. Of course, it’s impossible to always buy the same seats every time, no matter how much the venue is the same. There are whispers among researchers that “this series may have been filmed by people involved,” and this is the basis for that theory. The two performances of this work also follow this rule, with the two stages being photographed from exactly the same distance and from the same angle. Although there is no doubt that it is a different performance because there are different performances of the same song, you can experience two shows from a “fixed point”. Although the quality and visual beauty are similar… no, it is precisely because they are so similar that the differences stand out so clearly. Both performances, including the set, are great performances that can be said to be “the other side of AT BUDOKAN,” but the sense of scale is completely different. The opening act of the “July 22nd performance” was probably because the available space was small, but everyone except Rick Nielsen was concentrating on playing while the instruments were placed in a crowded place, and Robin Zander’s singing was also aggressive. On the other hand, the headliner’s “December 26th performance” had colorful lighting, a spacious stage, and Robin performed a series of exaggerated actions. Although his singing voice is wild, it’s more relaxed than aggressive, and he’s starting to acquire the air of a big name who can make a huge crowd sing. It is truly “AT BUDOKAN to see with your eyes”. Moreover, it is a masterpiece video that allows you to enjoy the moments immediately before and after the breakthrough from the same venue and from the same viewpoint. Success often changes a band’s atmosphere, but I can’t think of any other band in the rock world that depicts this so beautifully. The main point of this work is the enthusiastic performance of young CHEAP TRICK, and the superb quality of the scenery. On top of that, you can even feel the “magic of success” in which a rock band is reborn in just five months. This is a unique masterpiece video that should be experienced not only by CHEAP TRICK fans, but also by anyone who is interested in the mysteries of a band and the life of a rock musician.
