Description
Carla Bley, a creative jazz pianist with a unique universe, a composer, an arranger, and of course a keyboard player, passed away in 2023. As a memorial item, we have recorded a concert in Basel, Switzerland on April 20, 1985, from the unreleased live recordings from the 1980s, when she was at her most aggressive, for 1 hour and 37 minutes from the soundboard recording from the broadcast master. This is a live performance with a big band called the Swiss Band, recorded in official quality with the latest mastering on the local radio on-air master. The jazz she created was seductive, mysterious, and dominated by her own unique atmosphere, but from the late 1970s she showed a wider range of musicality, from alternative to avant-garde, jazz rock to pop tastes. Her live performance, which represents her true talent, features a total of 10 musicians, including the familiar Michael Mantler, as well as a variety of ECM-related musicians, and delivers her unique performance that transcends genres throughout the entire show.
