Description
As the US, where vaccinations have progressed, begins to return to normal life around the summer, Brian Wilson has finally resumed live performances. He was originally supposed to come to Japan last year, but it was canceled due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why the tour, titled “GREATEST HITS LIVE! 2021,” which began at the end of August, was good news for enthusiasts around the world. The fastest release this time is the live performance in Waukegan, Illinois, which was the final day of the tour. Brian had been away from live tours for over a year since the “GREATEST HITS LIVE! 2020” tour in February last year, so he seemed tired at the beginning of the live performance on the final day of the tour since then. The same applies to Al Jardine, who accompanied him, and his singing of “Help Me, Rhonda” also seemed tired. It’s no wonder that the two elderly people are slow starters as the tour comes to an end. However, after Al sang a song for Brian, Brian started to feel better and better from “Salt Lake City”. And the performance was outstanding. Meanwhile, Al’s son Matt showed off his beautiful voice in “Don’t Worry Baby”. He played an important role as a key member who revived the high-key old numbers in place of his father. Also, the gorgeous Beach Boys early 70’s anthology “FEEL FLOWS” was released at the start of this tour, so it was timely and made the fans cry to see not only the title song that was played last year, but also “Add Some Music to Your Day” and “Long Promised Road”, which were not on the set list at that time. The latter in particular is a wonderful Carl Wilson memorial corner with Blondie Chaplin taking the lead vocals, and the arrangement where the lead is replaced by Brian halfway through is also very moving. And the best part is “It’s OK” which was included in “15 BIG ONES”. This performance is also really wonderful, and it can be said that this repertoire is a good example of how the Brian Band, known for their dexterity and playing ability, continues to fully demonstrate their abilities even after the tour resumed. Although it is called “GREATEST HITS LIVE!”, this is the audience album of the latest live performance, which includes plenty of repertoire that will make any enthusiast cry. At the beginning, the balance of the sound coming from the venue is weak, as if to match Brian’s tone, but from around the selection of “Wake the World”, which is also a song that will make any enthusiast cry, the sound becomes thicker and the sound quality evolves to the best quality. A schedule for a tour of Europe next summer has already been announced, and a revenge visit to Japan may be realized after that. Thus, a good sound source from the latest tour that was undertaken to become active again is released as soon as possible!
