Description
This is a superb live performance from the JVC Jazz Festival held in New York on June 20th, which was recorded from a newly discovered broadcast recording from the world tour that started after the release of his third album as a leader, “Renaissance”. The Vienna performance in July from the 1987 tour has already been released, but the live performance at Town Hall in New York this time has a different set list and is a worthwhile performance. The only song picked from the album “Renaissance” is “Love Stone”, and it is a work that allows you to enjoy the royal road of hard bop by one horn quartet, including the classics “Passion Dance”, “Giant Steps”, and Kenny Kirkland’s classic “Dienda”. The backing members are all talented people who need no introduction, and the drumming of Jeff Tain Watts, who did not participate in the Vienna performance, is also noteworthy. Live at Town Hall, New York, NY 06/20/1987 1. Passion Dance 2. Yesterdays 3. Love Stone 4. Giant Steps 5. Dienda 6. Solstice Branford Marsalis (ts) Kenny Kirkland (p) Delbert Felix (b) Jeff Tayne Watts (dr)
