Description

The “Christic Institute Benefit” held at the Shrine Auditorium in LA in 1990 tends to be the subject of much discussion and release because Bruce Springsteen performed solo for the first time in a long time (his performance has now been officially released), but the performers before him were Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt. Since it was such a special and highly-anticipated benefit gig, many tapers capturing the two-day performance left behind many recordings, and of these, the best was naturally Mike Millard. As mentioned earlier, his recordings of the much-talked-about Springsteen performance were circulated among traders in real time, but the recordings of the other two performers were surprisingly not widely available. For that reason, the release of “THE CHRISTIC INSTITUTE BENEFIT CONCERT 1990: MIKE MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES”, which captured Jackson Browne’s performance from the first day of the event, literally made maniacs go wild. So what we’re waiting for is the mirrored recording of Bonnie Raitt’s stage. I’m glad that JEMS released it not long after Brown’s recording. Moreover, this is the second day’s stage. In other words, I’m looking forward to the release of the mirrored masters of Brown’s second day and Raitt’s first day’s stage. The mirrored recording of Raitt’s stage, which enthusiasts all over the world have been waiting for… is already a great sound quality. Although it doesn’t reach the level of “soundboard-like”, the sound image centered on her singing voice is still quite close. In addition, the style of the three people performing on an acoustic style stage at this event also attracted a lot of attention. As for Raitt, it was after the release of the masterpiece “NICK OF TIME”, which became her breakthrough work at the age of 40, so it was a stage at the peak of her career compared to Springsteen, who was on hiatus at the time, or Jackson, whose most recent album was a failure. Here, she sings with an electric guitar and is accompanied by a band member’s bassist, making it a minimum configuration. And yet, at the end of the concert, they played a bunch of songs from the still-popular “NICK OF TIME,” which is unique to this period. The limited number of sounds allows you to enjoy her husky voice, as well as the blues guitar that will make you gasp when you hear it. This is a mirrored recording, so it’s even more amazing. In the familiar stage repertoire “El Salvador,” Brown also appears and shares vocals with Raitt, creating an intimate scene unique to acoustic events. And from “Write Me A Few Of Your Lines,” the drummer joins in to create an acoustic band (he’s hitting brushes instead of sticks), which is the best. The mirrored master of this precious stage has finally been unearthed. This is a first-class performance and sound quality.
