Description
Like the Beatles and the Stones, Dylan’s 60s records come in two varieties: stereo and mono. The mono mixes of each album up to 1968’s “JOHN WESLEY HARDING” have been officially released on CD, but his mono sources are not limited to albums. This is also the same as the Beatles and the Stones, and that is what the 60s records are. There are also recalled singles and singles released only in countries other than the United States. They have never been officially released before, and there is no sign of them. If they were masters for singles, it is possible that the masters no longer exist. If they existed, they would have been released on CD a long time ago. So an overseas enthusiast stepped up and compiled the rare mono sources of Dylan from the 60s, which are the source of this release. He carefully transferred them from the records of that time. In 2017, when records have been completely restored to the point that pressing plants have reopened, the value of used records has increased, and it takes a considerable amount of money and effort just to collect them. Moreover, it is extremely difficult to transfer vintage vinyl from the 60s without scratch noise. However, he managed to put together these rare vinyls in a super clear state. I would like to introduce the details of the mono sound source recorded here. ★Disc-1 1. If You Gotta Go, Go Now (Dutch Mono 45) It is common knowledge among enthusiasts that this song, which was shelved in 1965, was released as a single in some countries such as the Netherlands in 1967. However, the version heard on this single has never been officially included on an album. This is after it was decided to shelv it in 1965, and in the hope of a possible release, a chorus group’s singing was overdubbed in a session without Dylan’s presence. The atmosphere is completely different from the version heard in the bootleg series. This is the first time that this single has been released on CD, and it is also the first time that it has been heard in such a clear state. And above all, singles are now very expensive. 2. Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? (Mono Mispress 45) The Japanese title “Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?” was once shelved and then re-recorded with another band, but there was a bit of a fuss when it was released. When it was first released, not only was the title printed on the label as “Positively 4th Street” by mistake, but the original shelved version was also included. Of course, it was immediately recalled, but because of that, this version of the Miss Single has been a regular on bootleg recordings since the LP era. However, in past releases, the intro drums were often missing, but here it is included completely. Not only that, but the sound quality is also extremely clean. Another appeal of this version is that it has a more pop finish. 3. Pledging My Time (Canada/UK Mono LP) 3:58 4. Visions Of Johanna (Canada/UK Mono LP) 7:32 5. I Want You (Canada/UK Mono LP) 3:12 6. Stuck Inside Of Mobile (Canada/UK Mono LP) 7. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (Canada/UK Mono LP) The classic album “BLONDE ON BLONDE” has been repressed many times because it is a classic rock album, and it is known that there are different mixes in stereo. However, an unusual situation occurred in which a different mix was released in mono from the beginning. In particular, the Canadian version is known to have many different mixes, and the fade-out timing of these songs is longer than the regular version. In the case of “Pledging My Time”, the fade-out is edited differently and can be heard for a long time. “Visions Of Johanna” is not the length of the ending, but Robbie Robertson’s guitar is mixed more on than usual. “Stuck Inside Of Mobile” is also different from the normal version in that it is not the ending, but the vocals are dry and there is no echo. And “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” is surprised that the fade-out is earlier than the normal version. 8. Most Likely You’ll Go Your Way (Canada Mono LP) This song is the ultimate in the difference in mix on the Canadian version. The mix is completely different, even before the fade-out is long. The sound of Kenny Buttrey’s drums is unusually loud, and I can only think that this was a rough mix that was put in by mistake. By the way, it doesn’t sound like this even if you only play one channel of the stereo. This is a unique mix. 9. Temporary Like Achilles (Canada Mono LP) 10. Absolutely Sweet Marie (Canada Mono LP) These are also obviously rough mixes, and in “Temporary Like Achilles,” the drums and guitars come to the forefront more than Dylan’s voice. “Absolutely Sweet Marie” is not only a well-balanced mix overall, but when Dylan starts playing harmonica at the end, it fades out in an instant. 11. Fourth Time Around (Canada Mono LP) The stereo version is famous for the mix with the organ playing next to Dylan’s singing, but this is like a mono version of that. The organ is quite harsh (lol). 12. Obviously Five Believers (Canada Mono LP) Dylan’s voice has no echo at all. Dry finish. 13. Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands (Canada Mono LP) Interestingly, the drums (hi-hat) tend to stand out too much on the regular version of this song, but the Canadian mix is more balanced and has a more refined finish. I think this one suits the atmosphere of the song better. ★Disc-2 1. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (French Mono LP) 2. Temporary Like Achilles (French Mono LP) 3. Fourth Time Around (French Mono LP) 4. Obviously Five Believers (French Mono LP) “BLONDE ON BLONDE” also had a different mix on the French version. “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” has an echo effect on the entire performance, and “Obviously Five Believers” has a mix that emphasizes Dylan’s voice even more. The highlight is “Fourth Time Around,” where the organ sound is even more prominent, almost destroying the atmosphere of the song. And yet the fade-out timing is longer than any of the mono versions, which is interesting. 5. Million Dollar Bash (Mono Promo Mix) 6. Yea! Heavy And A Bottle Of Bread (Mono Promo Mix) 7. Please Mrs. Henry (Mono Promo Mix) 8. Crash On The Levee (Mono Promo Mix) 9. Lo And Behold (Mono Promo Mix) 10. Tiny Montgomery (Mono Promo Mix) 11. This Wheel’s On Fire (Mono Promo Mix) 12. You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere (Mono Promo Mix) 13. I Shall Be Released (Mono Promo Mix) 14. Too Much Of Nothing (Mono Promo Mix) 15. Tears Of Rage (Mono Promo Mix) 16. Quinn The Eskimo (Mono Promo Mix) 17. Open The Door Homer (Mono Promo Mix)18. Nothing Was Delivered (Mono Promo Mix) The majority of the second disc is the familiar Basement Tapes. Mono acetates were made from the recordings and distributed as promos for other artists to cover. These eventually became the basis for countless LP bootlegs, including the world’s first bootleg, “GREAT WHITE WONDER.” This promo mono mix has never been released on CD, and when it was released in 2015 as part of a bootleg series, it was released only in vinyl format as a highlight item for Record Store Day, which was held at the same time. The design, which is completely reminiscent of old LP bootlegs, with a stamp and slick on the cover, was well received, and although the LP “THE ORIGINAL BASEMENT TAPE” was imported into Japan, it sold out in the blink of an eye and ended up on the shelves of item collectors, so it seems that not many people have heard the essential contents. This part is a CD version of the analog release. Unlike the recording from acetate like the vintage boot LPs of the past, the sound quality is perfect because it is based on the original master tape and the latest technology to make it into an LP. Unlike the regular basement of stereo, echo is added, and the original pastoral atmosphere is further warm and the mono sound is refreshing. Furthermore, the atmosphere of 1967 is realistically conveyed. And the selection of songs from Dylan’s heyday from 1965 to 1967 through two discs is substantial. This is another best album. With this release, our famous “FREEWHEELIN’ RADIO STATION PROMO” covers all the rare mono mixes from the 60s. In addition, it is the best item that allows you to easily play back a number of famous songs with a warm mono sound full of vintage feeling and rare versions with a clear sound without scratch noise on CD. Here, I would like you to play it at a high volume from the speakers and get a full feel of the mono sound! Rare Mono Mixes 1965-1967 Disc 1 (64:37) 1. If You Gotta Go, Go Now (Dutch Mono 45) 2.
