Description

Several soundboard recordings from Dylan’s latest tour, currently underway, have been released, creating a buzz among enthusiasts. However, these aren’t strictly recordings from the artist themselves; rather, they’re intercepted audio from the ALD (Assisted Listening Device) system, a long-standing fixture at Dylan’s stage shows and American concerts. In fact, many Dylan live recordings were circulated using this method in the 1990s. Now, thanks to ALD in the form of an app, Dylan enthusiasts are once again making recordings like they did before. The Buffalo performance on August 8th was the first to be released, and has already been released as an item. However, this month, ALD recordings from multiple shows, including the Buffalo performance, have been released. However, since these are not official SBDs but merely intercepted recordings, the balance often becomes unnatural when recorded by a single person. Therefore, the recordings released this time are a combination of recordings intercepted by multiple enthusiasts. The Buffalo performance was the first attempt at this. Furthermore, because the recordings released were intercepted, the September recordings were incomplete, failing to capture the entire live performance, or on some days the intercepts were unstable, resulting in a fizzy texture. Among the recordings released all at once, the August 1st recording from Jones Beach stands out as exceptionally well-balanced and rich. While the recording was made before Buffalo, the process of combining multiple intercepts occurred later, resulting in a richer sound. In fact, the clarity and balance are so excellent that at first listen, one might mistake it for a leaked soundboard. While this lacks the sense of realism of a live performance, Dylan’s current live shows aren’t particularly loud or exciting. Even more impressive is the incredible sound quality. Also, during the Buffalo appearance, there was much buzz about the long-awaited performance of “Masters of War,” but that song has since become the opening theme, and the practice of starting with Jones Beach’s “Gotta Serve Somebody” has become rarer. The song’s light and airy arrangement is also appealing. The crystal-clear soundboard quality is also a delight, conveying Dylan’s energetic singing with unparalleled clarity and realism. In fact, “I Can Tell” is so high-energy that it’s almost overwhelming to the point where you wonder if Dylan, at his advanced age, is ready to let loose so early on. And even among Dylan’s keyboard-driven repertoire, “Highway 61 Revisited” is surprisingly cool, performed in a straightforward original arrangement. Compared to the previously released and much-talked-about “Buffalo,” Tony Garnier’s bass booming sound is noticeably thicker this time. The sound quality is even more powerful, especially since the performance recreates the original atmosphere. And “Share Your Love With Me” is an R&B cover originally performed by his ally The Band with Richard Manuel on “Moondog Matinee,” a song that Dylan has been performing on stage since spring. His singing here is beyond description, and the delicate vocals are so realistically captured thanks to the soundboard-like recording. One of the highlights of the current tour can already be enjoyed with the best sound quality. As this is the stage at the Outlaw Music Festival, where he performed again last year, the performance time fits easily onto one CD for easy listening. And yet, the sound quality is of the highest quality, approaching the official level. This is the best day release among the ALD recordings currently popular among enthusiasts.
