A nostalgic documentary video has been released to coincide with this week’s Dylan Week. This video contains the 1985 Live Aid concert, which Dylan fans would never call a masterpiece (bitter smile). The official DVD of the event included only the most shabby “Blowin’ In The Wind,” but this DVD contains all three songs performed that day. Moreover, this is not the American broadcast version that is widely circulated among traders, but a rare video master recording of the live broadcast version by the British BBC. The image quality is not perfect, but the lack of captions that appear during the performance and comments from MTV anchors makes this a surprisingly rare version. As is well known, Mick Jagger decided to perform solo, but Keith Richards and Ron Wood, who had no particular plans for the event at the time, were asked by Dylan, who did not have a band at the time, to perform at the event as a trio. However, it was a live event with a mixture of various artists and equipment, and by the time Dylan and his band appeared, the monitor connections were a mess in preparation for the finale “We Are The World”. The same problem of confusion was also seen on the British stage, where Paul McCartney’s voice could not be heard, but on the American stage, it seemed that they could hardly hear their own performance during Dylan’s acoustic performance. To top it off, Dylan’s guitar string broke during “Blowin’ In The Wind”, making for a very disastrous performance. Moreover, this version includes the final song “We Are The World”, so you can enjoy the scenes where many nostalgic Eighties stars appear.
