Description
This time, we will release not only the first day of Dylan’s 1995 European tour, but also the second day of Prague. This may actually be the highlight of this release. Of course, this is also based on the master cassette that also used “12/- A POUND”, but after all, it only contained 7 songs as bonus tracks, and the full-length version is This is because this is his first appearance. Since it is an audience recording captured by the same taper at the same venue, the condition of the sound source such as the sound image is similar to the previous day. However, since it is the second day at the same venue, the balance of the sound output from the venue is better than the first day, and the point is that the sound image of Dylan’s singing voice is even closer. In addition, perhaps because Dylan himself performed a different formation than usual (i.e., not playing the guitar) the day before due to unforeseen circumstances, he was singing more freely than the day before, when he was already singing to his heart’s content as a singer. What is most noticeable is “I Don’t Believe You,” which was not played the day before. The arrangement alone, which recalls the 1966 tour with The Band, is very attractive, but here Dylan, who does not play the guitar, sings with great enthusiasm. Rather, perhaps having tasted it the day before, the following “All Along The Watchtower” cuts into the band’s performance with a harmonica solo, and the venue applauds for the passionate singing of the next “Just Like A Woman”. Ironically, because Dylan didn’t play the guitar, John Jackson, the guitarist of the Dylan band at the time, was able to play as hard as he could without worrying about his unreasonable guitar playing (lol). Thanks to this, “Tangled Up In Blue” captures the band’s sound that can only be heard during this short period when Dylan’s guitar playing has decreased, such as Jackson playing a hard riff who usually plays in the background. Very rare. Moreover, perhaps Dylan himself was not in a good mood, as he didn’t play the guitar in this song, so he was shouting at full throttle, and he sang in such great condition that it doesn’t seem like he had any health problems any more than the day before. Also, on this day, Dylan played the Strat not only on the same two songs as the previous day, but also on “Ballad Of A Thin Man”, but unlike the previous two songs, he played the usual unreasonable lead guitar throughout the performance. He plays to his heart’s content, and it’s interesting to see him return to the normal Dylan and band sound of this era. The ending also ends smoothly, matching his guitar phrase. Listening to this scene, you realize how well the members were in tune with Dylan, and that’s why the ensemble, which was unique to this period, was so precious and well-organized (lol) that Dylan didn’t play the guitar on most of the songs. I am reminded of this. And until now, I only knew from the bonus of “12/- A POUND” that the second day in Prague was so fulfilling. The level of performance was high even the day before, and this day it was even better. Coupled with the audience recording, which is extremely easy to listen to, it is even more impressive to see Dylan’s passionate singing on this day, even though he did not play the guitar, and the energetic performance of the band, which was released from his bondage (bitter smile). Here too, missing parts are filled in from other sources from the same day, so we are sure that the content is perfect!
