Description
Looking back, I think Mike Millard was a taper who was far from Dylan. His 1974 tour, where he is said to have started recording concerts, was a social phenomenon in the United States, and the competition for tickets was fierce. It’s probably worth less since it was released. And the 75-76 Rolling Thunder Revue ended before it even reached the West Coast. In that case, the only chance that West Coast taper Millard could think of to record Dylan in the 1970s was on the 1978 tour. “LOS ANGELES 1978 1ST NIGHT: UNCIRCULATED MILLARD 1ST GEN” attracted the attention of fans all over the world as it was a mirrored recording of Dylan’s live performance. Although it was recorded as only the second half of the live performance, everyone was convinced by the exceptional quality that made people say, “This is Mirrored.” However, while the surprise did not subside, a mirrored sound source recording another performance from the same LA Live Week appeared. This time, Millard recorded the Universal Amphitheater on June 3rd. Moreover, this time it is a long version recording that also includes the first half! There are fewer missing parts of the recording than the previous recording on June 1st, but it is still typical of Millard that two songs from the opening are not recorded. Therefore, for this release, we have realized a complete recording by supplementing another audience recording on the same day. The sound source used there has a very strong sound image and is listenable enough, but the shock when the sound source switched to mirrored recording at the beginning of “Baby Stop Crying” was unbelievably shocking. It will probably be put away. Is this a 1978 audience recording? There is no doubt that you will not believe your ears. It has a stereo feel and incredible clarity that is worthy of being called a mirrored standard. Moreover, it is no exaggeration to say that it is a sound board class sound image. If this happens, we guarantee that not only Dylan fans, but also those who collect rare sound sources under the name of Millard will be completely satisfied. There is no doubt that this release of such a different-level recording will attract the attention of fans all over the world, but the performance and excitement on this day was also amazing! The situation was more than fully conveyed from “LOS ANGELES 1978 1ST NIGHT”, but the performance on this day was also truly wonderful. It is obvious just by listening to and comparing “Mr. Tambourine Man” with the take of the live album “AT BUDOKAN”. Having experienced the Japanese and Australian performances, Millard was able to fully capture Dylan’s performance and the excitement of the audience with the band, which boasts a solid unity. It’s also interesting that the green light for the release of “AT BUDOKAN” was given in the middle of a series of LA performances where they performed with such high tension. When the official release containing the stage performance that still had the solidity of the early days was decided, the live performance of Dylan and the band had reached the next stage. If it is a mirrored recording that records such the best performance with the best sound quality, it is natural to release it on CD. Please take your time to listen to this truly wonderful sound source, there’s nothing wrong with it! Universal Amphitheater, Los Angeles, CA.
