Description
BLONDIE reached their peak in 1980 when they released their two great albums “PARALLEL LINES” and “EAT TO THE BEAT” to No. 1 in the UK in quick succession. The highest peak updated version of the classic sound board is now available. This work includes “January 12, 1980 London Performance”. This is a superb stereo soundboard recording recorded at the traditional venue “Hammersmith Odeon”. Speaking of 1980, it is remembered as the year when “AUTOAMERICAN” was released, but this work is the one before that, “EAT TO THE BEAT TOUR”. In order to understand the circumstances around that, let’s first look back at the schedule at that time and check the position of the show. 1979《May-June “EAT TO THE BEAT” production》・June 27th-August 26th: North America #1 (44 performances)《“EAT TO THE BEAT” released on September 28th》・October 4th-13th/December 15th: North America #2 (4 performances), December 25th-31st: Europe #1a (5 performances) 1980, January 1st-22nd: Europe #1b (18th performance) Performances)←★Coco★ ・March 7th-22nd: North America #3 (3 performances) ・June 25th + September 21st: Europe #2 (2 performances)《“AUTOAMERICAN” released in November》This is “EAT” The journey from the completion of “TO THE BEAT” to “AUTOAMERICAN.” The tour in their home country was completed before the release of “EAT TO THE BEAT”, and after its release, they went to Europe. I toured England and France over the year-end and New Year holidays. The London performance of this work was the 9th concert of “Europe #1b” at the beginning of the year. This show is also known for being broadcast on the famous program “SUPERGROUPS IN CONCERT”, and its air check is a classic among the classics that have produced many existing groups. This work is also such a super famous FM sound board, but it is different from the ordinary air check. It is a pre-FM version that was released very recently, and it is a super-excellent version that has been precisely digitized from the analog 3-disc broadcast master. In fact, the sound and content are tremendous. First of all, regarding the content, the entire 3-disc master disc is completely recorded. Normally, this type of FM broadcast eliminates sounds other than the concert as much as possible and finishes it like a continuous live album, but this work dares to follow the original broadcast. All program calls and interviews with Deborah Harry included on each side of the original LP are also included (by the way, this original version did not originally include commercials). In other words, this album is more of a radio album than a live album that allows you to relive a concert. It is a time capsule where you can experience the era of “1980” itself by playing the entire program. And the sound that conveys the sense of the times is also the best. Since it is a famous sound source, there are discs that have been digitally remastered to make it more vivid, but the sound of this work is super natural. Since it is an analog record that records sound using physical grooves, there is almost no deterioration over time, and the sound is beautiful, just as it was carved in 1980, and the sound is as natural as ever. The analog-like luster is full of depth and shine, faithfully reproducing the sound that would have been blown into the original master tape. What is depicted with such natural sounds is a show that has entered its prime. Although it is a famous sound source, it is also a good opportunity, so let’s summarize it here. Whispering Blondie (1 song)・Denis Parallel Lines of Love (6 songs)・Picture This/Heart Of Glass/Hanging On The Telephone/Sunday Girl/Pretty Baby/One Way Or Another Heartbeat of Love (11 songs)・Dreaming /Slow Motion/Shayla/Union City Blue/The Hardest Part/Atomic/Living In The Real World/Die Young Stay Pretty/Accidents Never Happen/Victor/Eat To The Beat Other covers (4 songs)・Louie, Louie/I Feel Love/”Heroes”/I Got You (I Feel Good)…and so on. The centerpiece is “EAT TO THE BEAT,” which is currently in the midst of a huge hit. All songs except “Sound-A-Sleep” were played in large numbers and accounted for half of the show. Moreover, most of them are repertoires that cannot be heard on the traditional version “PICTURE THIS LIVE”. Of course, the other half is also delicious. As expected, there are plenty of covers such as “Pretty Baby” that are not included in “PICTURE THIS LIVE”. What’s more, Robert Fripp of KING CRIMSON, who also participated in “PARALLEL LINES”, fully cooperated with this show. At that time, Flip was just before the launch of DISCIPLINE (which would develop into the reorganized CRIMSON), and was a time when he was deepening his interactions with David Bowie, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, and others. This distinctive guitar is also featured in “Heroes” of this work. Hammersmith Odeon’s stereo sound board sound source, which has symbolized BLONDIE at its peak. This is a top-of-the-line updated version that has been meticulously digitized from the very finest broadcast master. It is a masterpiece that is even better than “EAT TO THE BEAT”.
