Description

From the 1986 tour of BLACK SABBATH, fronted by Ray Gillan, the Leicester, England performance held on May 27th is recorded by the famous taper “CRAZY S.” for the first time in the world. Released using super high quality audience master! SABBATH’s 1986 UK tour has left behind definitive class sound sources such as “TO DO OR DIE” and “LAST GIG WITH RAY”, but now a new master piece is added here. ! For the live performance accompanying “SEVENTH STAR” released in 1986, the American tour started with Glenn Hughes, who also sang on the album, but unstable Glenn left after only 5 performances. The band continued touring with Ray Gillan as his successor, and performed live performances that were so much better than when he was with Glenn. (You can listen to the details in “STRANGER TO LIVE: FIRST GIG WITH RAY” and “RAY’S 3RD GIG”). Unfortunately, however, the US tour was canceled after the Dallas show on April 19th, and SABBATH decided to regroup and begin their UK tour on May 21st. In their home country, where they were reorganized, the band’s condition was looking up, and Ray’s performance, which added fresh sensibilities to the traditional SABBATH sound, gave a sense of a new direction for the band. The May 27th Leicester “De Montfort Hall” performance recorded in this work is the 6th performance of the home tour. The biggest feature of this work is the quality of the sound. From the opening intro, the sound board sound source is recorded with the best clearness that will make you escape, and everyone will be stunned by the realistic feeling! The brightness and visibility of “Supertzar” that seems to open up quickly, and the outstanding stereo and direct feel of “Mob Rules”, it would not feel strange even if the original sound source was made into an official live sound source as it is. ! In particular, “Children Of The Sea” seems to expand a dazzling sound world from Iommi’s arpeggios, and the wonderful wide acoustics are irresistible! In “Danger Zone,” where SABBATH sets an example for the L.A. metal that was popular at the time, Dave Spitz’s bass and Eric Singer’s drums also do a good job. Their metallic and rugged rhythm section is perfect for this number, which reflects the colors of the times. Ray’s powerful and melodious singing style fits the song better than Glenn Hughes, who sang on the album. The original SABBATH classic “War Pigs” that finally appears here is seasoned with keyboards and sound effects by Jeff Nichols, and the arrangement is already reminiscent of the same song in the recent reunion SABBATH. The vocals, which have just the right amount of echo, also help create a unique personality unique to this era. In “Heart Like A Wheel,” a SABBATH-style blues number with an excellent calm and profound feel, Iommi’s guitar solo displays a lyricism that captivates the listener. When you hear these songs and solos, you can imagine how great the blues and jazz background Iommi acquired during his MYTHOLOGY days. The medley that flows from “Symptom Of The Universe”, which decorates the middle of the live performance, to “Seventh Star” through “Sweet Leaf” and “Zero The Hero” is a great listening point of this era. Iommi’s playing, with his primitive impulsiveness, sinking gloom, crushing heaviness, and sense of scale like a river, and his ability to play four roles with just one guitar, is nothing short of astonishing. Even when moving to Disc 2, there is no change in the consistent clear high sound quality and powerful sound image. “Turn To Stone”, which features a drum solo, and “Die Young”, which was added from this UK tour, allow you to enjoy the best performance that fully demonstrates Ray’s potential. In particular, “Black Sabbath” incorporates his signature high tone, but the eerie tone reminiscent of Ozzy’s singing is exquisite. The bass solo where Dave Spitz plays at the highest volume (longer than usual!) and the scene where “Neon Knights” develops like a torrent from “N.I.B.” are the sharpness and modulation of SABBATH’s specialty. We are emphasizing the wonders of this. The climax of the live performance, which begins with the dramatic “Heaven And Hell”, is a majestic one worthy of a British hard man! In addition, in the long guitar solo and jam part that continues from “Heaven And Hell”, at around 6:05 after the main riff of “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” comes out, there is a cut due to a tape change before the reprise to “Heaven And Hell”. Although it can be seen, it is not a lack that hinders the flow of the live performance. The encore is “Children Of The Grave” which cannot be heard in “LAST GIG WITH RAY” and the promised “Paranoid”. Unlike Ozzy, of course his predecessors Ronnie and Ian Gillan, and later Tony Martin, “Children Of The Grave” is a must-listen to Ray’s unique bouncy tempo. After closing the live with “Paranoid” featuring “Supernaut”, this audio source is full of famous scenes that you can’t miss, until Iommi gives a comment of gratitude to the audience! As mentioned above, the 12-concert UK tour included “TO DO OR DIE” which recorded the Sheffield performance on the first day, “LAST GIG WITH RAY” from the Nottingham performance on the final day, and both ends were recorded by CRAZY S. remains a great audience source. The Leicester performance where this sound source was recorded is the 6th performance in the middle of both performances, and by listening to these three in a row, the outline of the UK tour will be filled. Although there is no big difference in the content of the fulfilling performances from the first day, the atmosphere of each live is different. This work is a tour document of SABBATH in 1986, which increases the sense of unity and strengthens the band-like character day by day, and is a must-see even if you are not a fan! With the addition of this work to the lineup of “TO DO OR DIE” and “LAST GIG WITH RAY,” BLACK SABBATH’s “1986 UK Tour Trilogy” by the famous taper is now proudly completed!
