Description
The “Original Trio + Tony Martin” lineup was realized only four times in the history of SABBATH. The definitive edition that brings together the multi-camera pro shots of that extremely rare live performance is now reissued! The “Original Trio” is Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. This lineup was realized when Bill participated in the “South American version of MONSTERS OF ROCK”, which was added as the final leg of the “CROSS PURPOSES TOUR 1994” by Iommi, Martin, and Geezer. First of all, let’s look at the position of this work from the entire “CROSS PURPOSES TOUR 1994”.・February 8th – March 13th, 1994: North American leg (25 performances) (about one week later) ・March 21st – March 27th, 1994: Japan leg (5 performances) (about two weeks later) ・April 11th – June 11th, 1994: European leg (35 performances) (about two and a half months later) ・August 27th – September 4th, 1994: South American leg (4 performances) ←★Here★ In this way, the main part of “CROSS PURPOSES TOUR 1994” ended in June, and Bobby Rondinelli left there. After that, Iommi received an offer to appear in the “South American version of MONSTERS OF ROCK”, and called out to his old friend Bill. Such a “South American version of MONSTERS OF ROCK” was also broadcast on local television. Three of the four performances were left as professional shots, and this work was the one that caught all the best masters in one go. Let’s take a look at each performance. [Disc 1: August 27th Brazil Performance] First up is the first performance of the South American leg in Brazil. As mentioned above, this pro shot is based on the television broadcast at the time, but this day is characterized by a very different song order from the actual live performance and Jeff Nichols’ keyboard, which is mixed in a very big way. The ’94 live performance in which Bill participated is valuable, but it also shows Bill challenging Vinny Appice and Cozy Powell’s songs such as “Time Machine” and “Headless Cross”, as well as Ozzy’s classics such as “Black Sabbath” and “War Pigs”, and songs from “HEAVEN AND HELL” such as “Children Of The Sea”. (Although he is rehearsing) After a long break, Bill is struggling with songs in a different style than his own, but this video is an important document including that. Although it is quite different from the sharp and tight performance of Cozy and others, the encore “Iron Man” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” have a unique mood and groove that makes you think “as expected of the original members”. At the end, there is also an interview scene with the members. You can watch live highlights and valuable interviews for about 60 minutes. [Disc 2: September 1st Santiago performance] The following disc 2 is the second South American performance in Chile. Here too, a new master unearthed overseas in recent years was used, and the quality far surpasses the VTR master known in Japan. The video of this day was said among fans to be “long but the video is not good,” but this work overturns that stereotype and you can enjoy 91 minutes. The greatest taste is the full set from “Supertzar” to “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”! The official video “CROSS PURPOSES LIVE” was released from the main tour when Bobby Rondinelli was enrolled, but it was missing “Children Of The Sea”. In other words, this work is not only a valuable full-length version of the “Original Trio + Martin”, but it is also the only complete video of “CROSS PURPOSES TOUR 1994”. “Time Machine” and “Headless Cross” were also seen in the Sao Paulo performance on Disc 1, but the “CROSS PURPOSES” numbers “I Witness” and “Cross Of Thorns” from the South American tour can only be seen here, and Bill seems to have regained a lot of his sense of humor after the first day, and his play is becoming more stable. After “Symptom Of The Universe”, even Bill’s drum solo is firmly recorded, which is the most important video in this work. [Disc 3: Buenos Aires performance on September 3rd] The last is the performance in Argentina on the third day of South America. Again, the encore part is not recorded, but the main set is completely recorded and the sound is excellent. On this day, there is also a separate FM album “BLACK AIRES (LANGLEY DELUXE 019)” from the TV, but the quality is close to that masterpiece stereo sound board. The image quality due to the tremendous master freshness is also wonderful, the screen does not feel almost degraded, the color and outline that does not worry about blurring or blurring, etc. … It is one of the outstanding ones among the three performances. In this Argentina performance, the set list was changed significantly from the previous two days, and the numbers before “HEAVEN AND HELL” (i.e., Bill’s era) became the center, and Bill’s play improved clearly. In particular, the unique fatigue groove created by “Into The Void” and “The Wizard”, the eerie mood of “Black Sabbath”, and other songs from the Ozzy era showed a strong presence. The play on “War Pigs” that makes use of Iommi’s heavy riffs and Geezer’s intense bass line is a must-see. In addition, “Neon Knights” and “Symptom Of The Universe” are not to be missed, as they highlight the contrast between the two stagings. Martin also seems to find it easy to sing the songs from the Ozzy era, and in addition to his skillful singing style, he sings these masterpieces with his singing that makes use of the mid-range to low-range charm that began to stand out from this period. The soundboard album “BLACK AIRES” also includes the encore “Iron Man” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”, but unfortunately this work ends with “Paranoid”. This work, which compiles all the footage from the 1994 South American tour into one, is a definitive one that has never been seen before. With a large volume of 208 minutes, this three-disc set allows you to fully enjoy the extremely valuable “Original Trio + Martin”. Rarity, quality, entertainment…all of these are at a high level.
