Description
The official grade stereo sound board of the 70’s has evolved into its ultimate form. What is engraved in this work is 2 performances and 4 types of superb soundboards. “December 8, 1976/September 2, 1978 Pittsburgh Performance”. Although both are from the same venue, they are super superb sound sources representing “TECHNICAL ECSTASY TOUR” and “NEVER SAY DIE TOUR” respectively. How are these two performances recorded? First, let’s organize the structure of this work. ●Disk 1: 1976 long/leaked soundboard ●Disc 2: 1978 long/leaked soundboard ●Disc 3: 1976+1978 FM soundboard…and it looks like this. Originally, the two Pittsburgh performances were known for FM broadcasting, but that completely changed in 2007. A long sound board was discovered before the broadcast for both performances, and since then it has become a staple of the “TECHNICAL ECSTASY” and “NEVER SAY DIE” era. This work is a 3-disc set that permanently preserves both the long sound board and FM sound board versions with the highest quality ever. [Disc 1: Definitive sound board of the TECHNICAL ECSTASY era] First, the long sound board of “December 8, 1976” appears. Although it is not a complete recording, it is much longer than the FM broadcast, which had only 4 songs, and you can enjoy most of the show for about 1 hour. As mentioned above, it is a leaked soundboard excavated in 2007, but this work is its highest peak. The peak so far was “DEFINITIVE PITTSBURGH”, but this work is a little different. Initially, “DEFINITIVE PITTSBURGH” was an imported disc that appeared as a new master, but after verification by enthusiasts, it was found to be “leaked sound board + FM sound source”. In fact, the FM master was rated higher among enthusiasts than the leaked master, and it was partially replaced with the FM sound source. Therefore, although each song on “DEFINITIVE PITTSBURGH” was the best, the mix and sound changed at the master switching point. On the other hand, this disc has refined the leaked soundboard itself. There is no master switching, and a consistent sound runs throughout the entire album. The order of the songs has also been corrected according to the actual live performance. Of course, that’s not all. The latest and meticulous mastering has been carried out, and the sound that has been said to be “half a step above FM sound source” has been completed to be at least the same level. In fact, the quality of this work is completely official grade. The clarity, the delicacy of the sound, the clear contours…all are incomparable to previous releases, and even exceed the FM sound sources that have been praised by enthusiasts. What’s especially great is the stereo effect. By increasing the detail of each note, a vivid spread is created. The sound depicts the world of “TECHNICAL ECSTASY TOUR” that is too special even in the 70s. In fact, the only soundboard for this tour is the Pittsburgh performance (in recent years, the existence of pro shots of the Fresno performance has been confirmed, but so far only one song has been released), but in particular “All Moving Parts (Stand Still)” and “Gypsy” are treasures. It was not played even after the reunion, and it is a truly rare song only for this tour, and you can listen to it on the official sound board. What’s even more special is the keyboard. Gerald Woodruff, known for his work with Robert Plant, is accompanying him, and it’s more colorful than other tours. Although Woodruff had participated in the previous “SABOTAGE TOUR”, his opportunities for active participation have greatly increased on this tour. In particular, the “TECHNICAL ECSTASY” number is even the cornerstone of the ensemble, allowing you to fully enjoy the charm of the “5-piece Sabbath.” [Disc 2: Long soundboard of 1978 performance] Next is the long soundboard of “September 2, 198”. This is also the same as in 1976. It is the same that four songs were broadcast on FM, that a long version was discovered in 2007, and that it is still about an hour and not a full show. And it is the same that this work is the highest peak. As with Disc 1, the excavated master has been remastered and refined to a level that exceeds the FM sound source. However, there was one difference from the 1976 edition. That is that the leaked sound board itself was a combination of two master types. This is common to all previous releases, and is probably caused by the editing process that goes into creating the broadcast version. Although it wasn’t really different from the FM sound source, the tone was still different. In this work, this point has also been improved. Bringing the two types of sounds as close as possible to achieve a sense of unity. Furthermore, it is close to Disc 1, and the sound is finished so that it does not feel strange even if you listen to it continuously. Even though the sound is full of unity, the show is similar and different from 1976. The biggest difference is, of course, the keyboard. There is no keyboard player accompanying this tour, and the original tight “four-person Sabbath” will unfold. There is also an official pro shot of the Hammersmith performance on the “NEVER SAY DIE” tour, but the two songs “Iron Man” and “Fairies Wear Boots” cannot be heard there either. Moreover, “Fairies Wear Boots” are surprisingly important. It tends to be overlooked because it is a staple of the reunion era, but it is actually the first time since “MASTER OF REALITY TOUR” that it has returned as a regular. This tour marks the 10th anniversary of their formation and sums up the “original era”, which is why you can enjoy their revival performance on the official soundboard. [Disc 3: Reel to Reel Master, the best of the FM version] Lastly is the FM sound board that has been praised by enthusiasts all over the world. Only four songs were broadcast in 1976 and 1978, and this work includes both. Moreover, this master is also the highest peak, so it is said that it is included. Air checks have been widely known for a long time, but this work is different from that. The original source is a reel-to-reel that was taken from a radio station without permission (that’s called theft…). The sound is truly amazing. The mix is more beautiful than the excavated soundboard, and the freshness is overwhelming because it is the original reel master. In fact, like Discs 1-2, it has been remastered with the aim of achieving the ultimate form, but this FM version is completely different! I wasn’t able to do that much of an upgrade. The ultimate quality from the very beginning. That super-excellent sound was finally preserved permanently with this work. The sets are similar, and “TECHNICAL ECSTASY TOUR” and “NEVER SAY DIE TOUR” are talked about as brother tours among enthusiasts. This is a 3-disc set that summarizes the same venue sound board in its ultimate form. “DEFINITIVE PITTSBURGH”, which was compiled by overseas enthusiasts, was also a transcendent live album, but this work boasts an equal or higher quality, and overwhelmingly surpasses the flowing sense of unity.
