Description
From the North American tour accompanying the release of BLACK SABBATH’s “HEAVEN AND HEL,” the October 16, 1980 New York/Rochester performance was recorded in its entirety, from an audience recording master of such high quality that anyone who listened to it mistook it for a sound board recording. The 82 minutes are directly recorded and released. This Rochester performance was the day before the Long Island Nassau Coliseum performance known for the official video “BLACK & BLUE”, and the show that SABBATH and BLUE OYSTER CULT put on here was like a run-through before the actual performance. It is known that it was a fulfilling live performance. For this reason, several types of live sound sources have appeared both domestically and internationally for a long time, and among them, the audience sound source known under the title “HEAVENLY HELL” is labeled as “Excellent Audience Recording” on overseas collector sites. The more excellent the recording was, the more it was evaluated. This new work is recorded directly from the tape that was the original source of “HEAVENLY HELL”, and by carefully remastering it, it has been revived as a sound source that surpasses the previously released “Excellent”. I’m here! The sound that seems to be from the proximity of the taper and stage is very clear, vivid and full of direct feeling, and the high sound pressure creates a powerful punch that will numb the listener. When I compared the sound quality with “VETERANS MEMORIAL” released on September 19th of the same year, which was released on a press CD, I found that although it was inferior in terms of width and surround sound, it was on a par in terms of clarity, and it even sounded like I was right in front of the stage. The powerful sound image makes you want to give preference to this one, and the differences in each other’s characteristics have become clear individualities that can be enjoyed by both. From the opening of “Supertzar” featuring the thunderous S.E. to the heavy “Wr Pigs”, I was already in the listening room, and Ronnie’s song echoed from the center of the stereo, and Iommi’s guitar jumped out as if to pierce it. is very impressive. “Neon Knights” and “N.I.B.” had relatively smooth vocal lines during the 1982 tour and the official live album “LIVE EVIL,” but this time, Ronnie’s singing had a rough power. This is a unique feature of this tour. One of the charms of this work is that you can enjoy all the songs from Ozzy’s era with amazing sound quality, and “Black Sabbath” and “Iron Man” fully capture the world view of the original SABBATH arranged in Ronnie’s style. You can taste it. Its presence is as exquisite as Ronnie’s famous songs such as “Heaven And Hell” and “Die Young”, and the song’s more sinister feeling already has the air of Ronnie’s original. The clash between the rush-like heaviness and Ronnie’s admonishing vocals in the encore song “Children Of The Grave” is also spectacular, and when I listened to it while thinking about the meaning of the lyrics and the world the song appealed to, I realized that this song was a real hit. I feel the take has a strong persuasive power. In addition, in the previously released “HEAVENLY HELL”, the entire “Sweet Leaf” including Vinny Appice’s drum solo, and the beginning of “Paranoid” that closes the set were lost. Unfortunately, the same is true of the master used to produce this work, and there is no other choice but to think that this was lost from the recording stage. The US tour started in July 1980 and lasted for 4 months until the performance in Wichita, Kansas on November 11th. This Rochester performance, which was held the day before the video shooting, is the peak of the North American tour, and will entertain you with the best live performance that has survived. Superb quality that will impress everyone who listens! A must-have sound source for all Sabbath & Ronnie fans is now available with new life! Live at Community War Memorial Auditorium, Rochester, NY.
