Description

BLACK SABBATH made their first visit to Japan in 1980 with Ronnie James Dio. An original recording that conveys the scene is now available. This work was recorded on “November 20, 1980: Kyoto Kaikan”. This is a masterpiece audience recording. This is the first visit to Japan by a huge British band, and Ronnie, who was extremely popular with RAINBOW, will be accompanying them. At our store, we have archived that monumental tour with numerous masterpiece recordings. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at the time, including the collection, and check the show’s position.・November 16th: Nakano Sunplaza (evening session) “FACE OF EVIL” ・November 16th: Nakano Sunplaza (evening session) ・November 17th: Nihon Seinenkan “DEFINITIVE BUER” ・November 18th Sunday: Nakano Sunplaza “EVILMANIA” etc. × November 19th: Nakano Sunplaza (cancelled) November 20th: Kyoto Kaikan ←★This work★ November 21st: Osaka Kosei Pension A total of 6 performances. Speaking of their first visit to Japan, the FM broadcast of a certain broadcasting company “November 18th” is symbolic, but that live is also famous for being interrupted because Tony Iommi got into a meal. The next day, “November 19th”, was cancelled. After that, the tour resumed as Iommi recovered. The Kyoto performance of this work was the first concert of its restart. Also, this Kyoto performance is known as an unexplored region even for first-time visitors to Japan. There are many recordings other than those introduced in our store, but the number of recordings in Kyoto is extremely small. Moreover, the quality is not good enough and there are no recordings that reach the level of great masterpieces. This work is a new excavation master that conveys the scene of Kyoto with wonderful sound. In fact, the sound of this work is exquisite. Since this is his first visit to Japan, it is full of masterpieces, so it cannot be advertised as “Tour No. 1!!!”, but it is more than a masterpiece. What’s most wonderful is the strong and sturdy core. Ronnie’s singing voice has a “ringing feeling”, so you can’t mistake it for a sound board, but the guitar, bass, and drums come closer and closer. The keyboard played by supporter Jeff Nichols can also be heard clearly. Even though the vocals sound like a hall, each word of the lyrics is clear, and you can clearly enjoy the nuances of Ronnie, who was described as “singing like a demon.” What is even more surprising is the lack of audience noise. There is also a recording that shows how popular it was at the time, but perhaps the audience in Kyoto was quiet, and in this work you can hardly feel the enthusiasm that interferes with the extremely thick performance sound. Both Ronnie’s vocals that grow and Iommi’s demodulated heavy riffs jump into your hands without any obstructions. Such a sound depicts the essence of the style of Sabbath that was reborn in the famous album “HEAVEN AND HELL”. As mentioned above, the standard for first-time visitors to Japan is FM broadcasting, so let’s compare and organize. Classics (6 songs)・BLACK SABBATH: N.I.B./Black Sabbath・PARANOID: War Pigs (★)/Iron Man/Paranoid (★)・MASTER OF REALITY: Sweet Leaf HEANVEN AND HELL numbers (5 songs)・Neon Knights/Children Of The Sea/Lady Evil/Heaven And Hell/Die Young (★) *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on the famous “November 18th” FM broadcast. …and it looks like this. Our FM album “EVILMANIA” supplements the unaired “War Pigs” with a leaked soundboard, but I still couldn’t listen to “Die Young” and “Paranoid” at the end, where Iommi was down and didn’t play. Also, even compared to the traditional version of Ronnie’s era “LIVE EVIL”, you can enjoy the numbers unique to “HEAVEN AND HELL TOUR” such as “Sweet Leaf”, “Lady Evil”, and “Die Young”. And the performance that spins such a set shows its true potential with Iommi’s demodulation. Originally, BLACK SABBATH was the type where Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward had strong ups and downs, but Iommi and Geezer Butler have always been ironclad. With the addition of Ronnie, a true professional, and newcomer Vinny Appice, there was no element of anxiety in the ensemble, and the world of style Sabbath, a fusion of heaviness and romanticism, was fully opened. In particular, Ronnie’s singing is heavier and more aggressive than during the RAINBOW era. Those who love delicacy will prefer the singing styles from the RAINBOW era and after the hugely successful “THE LAST IN LINE,” but “HEAVEN AND HELL TOUR” is the essence of his enthusiasm as a challenger. This work is also a famous recording where you can fully enjoy that ambition. The Kyoto performance is so legendary that it remains a secret even on his first visit to Japan. This is a valuable live album that reproduces the scene with exquisite powerful sound. A full show that shows off its true potential that cannot be experienced on famous FM broadcasts.
