Description

Hartford, 1980 2CD is a two-disc set that can complete the sound board with Ronnie & Bill, but in fact there is only one song that is not left on the sound board. That is “Lonely Is The Word”. This song was only played on “Europe #1” even before Bill left the band, and unfortunately it was not recorded on the sound board. If there is no sound board, it is time to record the audience. This work is a full audience recording of “St. Austell, June 24, 1980” where “Lonely Is The Word” was performed. The important part here is the “full” part. BLACK SABBATH, who made a re-break with “HEAVEN AND HELL”, is very popular all over the world. Due to the advancement of recording equipment, audience recordings of this tour were produced in large quantities more than in the 1970s. There are many records of “Lonely Is The Word”, but when it comes to full show recordings, the story is different. It decreases dramatically at once. Moreover, if “good sound” is added, it is an endangered species. There are only a few recordings, which are very limited. This work is a superb recording that competes for the first and second places. In fact, the results of the top race have already been announced, and the champion is the Offenbach performance of “LONELY IS THE WORD: The Legendary Master”. However, it is the St. Austell performance of this work that came in second place by a small margin. In fact, this work is a truly wonderful vintage audience. As expected, it does not reach the clarity of the champion “LONELY IS THE WORD: The Legendary Master”, but the powerful core and vivid details are never inferior. It approaches you with a gusto and is very powerful. Speaking of 1980, it is the beginning of an era in which audience recordings evolved significantly, but it is clear that it was at the forefront of that. Regardless of the presence or absence of “Lonely Is The Word”, it is a famous recording that should be released normally. The full show depicted with that sound is wonderful. As expected, the drumming of Bill Ward is the focus of attention. Bill disappeared during the US tour, but this work was in Europe before that, and Bill’s motivation is still felt. In other bands, the drummer’s motivation doesn’t make much difference, but Bill’s motivation is not so different. After all, Iommi also said that “Bill has a big difference between when he’s good and when he’s not,” and his motivation can affect the show. In particular, at that time, he played the “HEAVEN AND HELL” numbers extremely simply, and there were times when he didn’t even remember the fills he played in the studio. However, the “Europe #1” leg of this work. Although it feels different from the 70’s numbers, he still performs energetically. And the biggest attention is (as expected) “Lonely Is The Word”. It is a rich number that approaches in the mid-range even in “HEAVEN AND HELL”, and the emotions that are cultivated are hot on stage. Although it was also played in the later HEAVEN & HELL project, the groove of this work is none other than Bill, and Ronnie is also burning with a youthful passion to rule the world. The taste of the beat and the passion of the vocalization that is extremely diverse are only found in Europe in 1980. This work allows you to enjoy it with one of the most powerful sounds. “Lonely Is The Word” cannot be heard even in the complete roundboard collection “DEFINITIVE HARTFORD 1980”. This is one of the best recordings that includes that rare song and allows you to enjoy the full show. This work is “complete with all songs” beyond the Hartford, 1980 2CD. To be honest, I would like you to experience the masterpiece “LONELY IS THE WORD: The Legendary Master”, but this work is the second choice after that.
