Description

Evans’ first appearance live in 1977, which is completely unreleased, is here again! ! Moreover, it was a rare live performance in which Chuck Israel, who replaced Ruffalo as the regular bassist of the Evans Trio in the 1960s, temporarily participated. In addition, a delicious bonus track called “Round Midnight”, which is rare and will be released on CD for the first time, is also added! ! After Fantasy signed a contract with the major Warner Bros. and released the masterpiece “You Must Believe in Spring,” which represents Evans’ latter half, Eddie Gomez, who had been the bassist of the Evans Trio for many years, left and became the regular bassist. In a very short period of time until Mark Johnson was selected, Chuck Israel, who had been the bassist to replace Ruffalo after his death and had created such masterpieces as “Moonbeams,” temporarily participated in the 1977 intense concert held at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. The rare live performance was completely recorded on a high-quality stereo soundboard with the label’s own careful mastering (there is almost no hiss caused by the master!), and this is also the first CD of Thelonious Monk Immortal. A must-have, must-listen edition is now available for the first time, with an additional bonus recording of a rare live performance by a trio that breathed new life into the original classic song “Round Midnight” with Evans’ unique interpretation! ! The Grinnell concert features the golden Evans Trio set list from this period, including “My Romance,” “Re Person I New,” “Very Early,” “Elsa,” “Nardis,” “My Foolish Heart,” and more. The three members established during Ruffalo’s tenure, piano, bass, and drums, interact with each other while developing their own original improvisations, creating a unique performance space with plenty of original and innovative trio performances. I’m letting you listen. Compared to Ruffalo and Gomez, Israel has a quiet presence, but he has been greatly influenced by Ruffalo, and their beat-taking is quite similar, but compared to Ruffalo, he is more melodious and Evans has a very romantic side. The way it is beautifully expressed is very attractive. Also, Elliott Zsigmond, who replaced Martin Morrell from “Cross Currents”, is not flashy, but he always brings out Evans’ lyricism in the best way with his accurate playing and never breaks down in any situation. Although this is an irregular Evans Trio, it is not an impromptu performance at all, but rather a very elegant Evans-like performance that shows the backbone of Evans, who has a deep knowledge of classical music, in an ideal form. The rare “Round Midnight” by the Evans Trio, which was additionally recorded as a bonus, is also a wonderful performance that highlights Evans’ signature inventive arrangement and elegant piano touch! !
