Description
“WITH THE BEATLES” was the only Beatles album where the performance and vocals were recorded with a balance between left and right. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, but there are still quite a few people who feel that it has an undeniable, old-fashioned stereo feel, or that it has some quirks. Lord Reith, a leading figure in the internet world, is tackling this problem. So far, he has released works on the internet that improve the stereo image of his first album and single song sessions, and based on them he has released “PLEASE PLEASE ME SESSIONS: IN SPECTRAL STEREO” and “FROM ME TO YOU SESSION:”. IN SPECTRAL STEREO” has been released. If that happens, the next one will be “WITH THE BEATLES”. As I mentioned when “FROM ME TO YOU SESSION ~” was released, sadly only one session tape of “WITH THE ~” exists. That was the policy at the time. On the contrary, it was truly miraculous that so many session tapes remained for “PLEASE PLEASE ME”. Making good use of this limited situation, Lord Reith once again made a center mix of the sound source from the “WITH THE~” period under the title “YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE GLAD!” and converted the sound source that only existed in monaural to stereo. . The album opens with the hit single “She Loves You.” The tragic situation is that no session tape of this song remains. Because of this, it is famous as one of the songs for which only a monaural mix exists, both now and in the past. Even so, in an attempt to convert it into stereo, a fake stereo version was even made by transplanting the backing track from the German version that had been re-recorded in 1964. So Lord Reith once again made full use of the latest technology to create a wonderful stereo sound. If you listen to it with headphones, you’ll be amazed at the stunning results. However, for this release, we did not use “YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE GLAD!” as is, but revised the content. First of all, the B-side of the single “I’ll Get You”, which is included in the second song, is produced by a maniac who has released his own stereo version on YouTube under the name Tomi McCartney (kindly, he only has the YouTube audio). I have replaced it with the version (which also releases FLAC files). Judging from the results, they achieved a stunning stereo conversion that easily surpassed that of Lord Reith. If you listen to this with headphones, you will be amazed by the amazing stereo sound. The stereo feeling of the session for the album itself is truly Lord Reith, and this time it is truly wonderful. In particular, the wonderful separation in “Devil In Her Heart” and “Please Mr. Postman” is a highlight. As I mentioned earlier, this is an album with extremely few session tapes, but with the exception of the album’s opening song, “It Won’t Be Wrong,” an unfinished track was played through the studio speakers. There are sound sources that were personally recorded by the members. By combining this with Lord Reith, you can experience a simulated session stage before the early Beatles specialty vocals are double-tracked. However, this release does not stop there. In addition to the previous single track, a version in which Lord Reith extracts the vocal track that was layered later is also included in the bonus of “YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE GLAD!”. Therefore, this time, we used those two types of vocal separated sound source versions and created a unique stereo vocal version with left and right parts. This finish is very modern, and you could compare it to the stereo mix used for the best album “1+” that was realized on “It Won’t Be Wrong.” Regarding “Roll Over Beethoven” sung by George, this time Lord Reith has beautifully reproduced the version before adding handclaps. I was surprised that the sound was completely erased. This is also a sound source that was treated as a bonus in the main body of “YOU KNOW ~”, but for this release, it has been relocated to the main part for the purpose of reproducing the session more faithfully. The recordings after “Hold Me Tight” were recorded on September 12th, and this is the only session tape left at the time of “WITH THE BEATLES” production. What’s interesting is that both songs have been recorded in the past (it’s a shame that there are no sound sources left to prove it), so the arrangements are very complete. Thanks to this, both songs were mastered with fewer takes, but when Paul playfully interrupted take 23 of “Hold Me Tight,” engineer Norman Smith called out the next take in a fit of anger. This is a scene that is famous among enthusiasts. It is very moving to hear the familiar session scene from the nostalgic Unsapa era on the center mix. At the end of the album, a sound source related to “I Want To Hold Your Hand”, which ushered in a new era, is included. There is a session tape left here, but it is frustrating that it can only be glimpsed in the fragments used in the “ANTHOLOGY” video edition. However, Lord Reith has added a session version of the same song with the handclaps completely removed, so you can fully experience the session feeling. And the bonus includes a version that separates the overdubbing sound that was added to “Hold Me Tight” and George’s “Don’t Bother Me”. I think it’s especially refreshing that the impressive sound of the claves in the latter was brought to the forefront by being separated. However, these separated sound sources have been replaced with the version that Lord Reith released on the internet a little earlier than this time, and the content has been further enriched, as well as the original “YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE GLAD!” session. We have created a cohesive document with content. After all, this is a time when there are extremely few session sound sources (what will they do with the deluxe edition that is expected to be released in the future?), so in addition to the usual center mix, we have reproduced the session stage to this extent with limited sound sources. The content shown is enough to amaze enthusiasts all over the world. On top of that, we reviewed the sound source and editing for release. I declare that this is the best masterpiece in the “IN SPECTRAL STEREO” series!
