Description
Another Tobe Milo release that will surely bring tears to the eyes of Beatles enthusiasts is “TELEVISION OUT-TAKES”. It ranks among the rarest of Tobe Milo releases. At one time, it was common for EPs to sell for over 20,000 yen, and although things have calmed down now, they still sell for well over 10,000 yen, so their popularity has not waned. The most attractive thing about the album is the artwork. Despite the large image of Paul dressed as a McDonald’s employee, it has a twisted concept of not having a single song by him (although strictly speaking, his singing voice can be heard in the Ed Sullivan part). Moreover, the cover is printed in full color, which makes it stand out. As for the contents, of course, there was no way that outtakes from television broadcasts would have been leaked in this era, so this is a compilation of audio from television programs in the mid-70s in which members other than Paul appeared. The opening part of Ringo’s appearance on the Smothers Brothers show, “No No Song,” can currently be seen on YouTube, but the opening comedy part is not available, so it is valuable. Even just from the audio, you can enjoy the role of “a pop star from the 60s.” Also, “A SALUTE TO SIR LEW GRADE,” John’s last TV appearance, and “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE,” in which George performed with Paul Simon, are now easily available, but the recordings here were each recorded from a TV speaker at the time of broadcast, and of course the sound quality is full of vintage feel. However, it is valuable that the “atmosphere” unique to the time of broadcast is conveyed from there. And both sides A and B also contain Beatles-related audio. Side A contains a digest of The Beatles’ appearance on the Sullivan Show, which was broadcast at the time of Ed Sullivan’s death. The last track on side B, “SECOND OPEN-END INTERVIEW,” was made for radio stations to coincide with the release of “BEATLES’ SECOND ALBUM” in the United States. It was an interview disc that contained only the Beatles’ answers to questions. In other words, if the station’s DJ played this and asked a question (the question was printed on the back of the promo disc), the Beatles’ interview could be broadcast. It seems like a fake system now (lol), but at the time it was a seriously considered means of promotion. Finally, although the range was not as drastic as “STUDIO OUTTAKES,” there was still some variation in pitch depending on the source, so I adjusted it properly here as well (I reduced the scratch noise on both items). This is an excellent CD that allows you to easily enjoy Tobe Milo’s rare EP, which Beatles analog enthusiasts would have longed for, with stable pitch.
