Description
This is a 2CD set containing the first pressing of The Beatles’ “REVOLVER” in UK MONO, commonly known as “Matrix One”. First of all, the importance of this mono version is well known, and the master for “Tomorrow Never Knows” sent to the record pressing plant for MONO initially used RM11. Then, on July 14, 1966, George Martin called Geoff Emerick to instruct him to replace the mix of this song with RM8 made on April 27th, which is what started it all. See below And although pressing of the album had already started at that point, the pressing was not discarded but was shipped as it was, so this rare version was circulated in the world. And the RM11 of “Tomorrow Never Knows” that you can listen to here is known for not having a tambourine in the intro, and even after that, there are more sound effects than the RM8, and the overall impression is closer to the stereo version, and the ending is a few seconds longer than the other versions, which are its main features. As the existence of this different mix became widely known in the late 90s, the UK MONO mix was finally officially released in 2009, but the possibility of the “Matrix 1” recording containing RM11 being released officially is very low in the future. Furthermore, disc 2 contains the “Mobile Fidelity” version, which is said to have higher sound quality than the CD version of the album and is a must-have for analog collectors. While most of the collector’s CDs of this mobile version currently on the market are transcribed from records, this one is mastered from an extremely rare mobile cassette tape, so there is no scratch noise. In any case, the existence of the cassette tape is not well known, so these two versions, including this one, are must-listen collector’s editions for those who have not heard them yet.
