Description

Dr. Ebbetts was a maniac who was fed up with the fact that Beatles albums had been left unplayed after being remastered in the 1980s. In the first decade of the 21st century, he put a lot of effort into making Beatles albums from all over the world into CDs in order to capture the warmth of analog on silver discs. His main focus was to make LPs into CDs in a straightforward way. He hated equalization, which hides the scratch noise that occurs on LPs, and he put his utmost effort into carefully tracing the albums from good condition. Thanks to Dr. Ebbetts, Beatles albums from all over the world were made into CDs and could be listened to easily, which was highly praised by maniacs. However, it was a pity that the release was limited in distribution channels and was only a small-scale release because it was only a release by one maniac. Because of this, items became widespread in the form of files and even copies became widespread, but those days are long gone. Above all, Dr. Ebbetts felt that his role had been completed after the official and wonderful remastering was realized in 2009, and he stopped his activities. Nowadays, Dr. Ebbetts has a strong impression of focusing on carefully converting LPs from various countries into CDs, but on the other hand, there were some items that he played around with by applying his own mixes. One of them is the stereo remix of the first album that will be released as a gift this time. Even if you are not a enthusiast, you may know that the first two Beatles albums were recorded in two-track stereo, which gave the performance and singing a primitive stereo image with the left and right separated. So Dr. Ebbetts tried to remix the vocals to an image where they could be heard from the center. However, since the original was such a primitive balance, the finished product he applied here was more like “the right channel was expanded to the middle” rather than “the vocals are in the center” (laughs). What’s more, the parts where the vocals were not included were dutifully pushed back to the right channel, almost to the point of creating a center mix feeling. With today’s technology, a more centered mix would be created, but I’m impressed that Dr. Ebbetts tried to do that in 2003. You can also fully enjoy the warm Dr. Ebbetts mastering, which is different from the current 2009 remaster, and for example, “Anna” has a different, thicker sound quality that resonates freshly. This gift is enough to surprise those who hear it for the first time. For that reason, we recommend using headphones for playback and enjoying the unique finish of this fan-made remix version.
