Description

The first disc of “THE MAKING OF THE BEATLES 1957-1963” contains a sound source that captures the Silver Beatles rehearsing in 1960. From the original “KICKS KUDOS AND CASH”, I omitted the instrumental performance from the same sound source and put it together, but this is a collection of instrumental sound sources. These are basically jam sessions, but in reality, it would be more accurate to compare them to endless scenes of a 1960 student band playing their instruments. To be honest, there are many dull performances, and only “Moovin’ And Groovin” and “Ramrod” barely show any spark. After that, it’s just a student band without a drummer doing some sort of jam. Among them, Stuart Sutcliffe’s bass only uses the open strings and index finger, right? It seems like a childish play. However, it is said that his skills improved during the tour to Hamburg that took place after this. Still, it is the only sound source left from the era in which he was enrolled, and it is certainly of high historical or documentary value. In that respect, the label that originally released this sound source was smart. First, they released a double LP called “LIVERPOOL MAY 1960,” which was primarily an instrumental album. As a result, even though there were many difficult parts in terms of content, the Silver Beatles sound source when Sutcliffe was enrolled was unearthed! It was welcomed with open arms. However, six months later, “THE QUARRYMEN AT HOME”, which was a collection of only singing parts, was released, and as expected, the attention and popularity of “LIVERPOOL MAY 1960” plummeted. As you can see from this ending, the hour-long instrumental part is not something you’ll want to listen to over and over again, and you can safely call it a kind of stepping stone. In songs such as “Jam #6”, Paul improvises and sings various lyrics, but this is also a mess (lol). This is also a compilation of the best versions currently on the market, and there is no omission in content or editing. Since it is such a sound source, it can be said that it is perfect for “listening while listening”, but it is true that the 1960 rehearsal sound source is complete only by having this.
