Description
Even if you’re not a Beatles fanatic, the release of “ANTHOLOGY: JAPANESE TV BROADCAST COMPLETE EDITION” will bring back fond memories of 1995. The TV station that aired “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY” on New Year’s Eve aired the music video for “Free As A Bird,” a new song, one month prior, as a preview and promotion for their first album, “ANTHOLOGY 1.” This, too, evokes fond memories for fans who remember the excitement surrounding “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY.” The broadcast aired during Japan’s most influential news program at the time, and viewers literally watched with bated breath as the music video debuted, capturing worldwide attention. However, because the program itself had nothing to do with music and only featured one music video, there are far fewer VHS recordings of this broadcast than the New Year’s Eve edition of “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY.” This broadcast is now extremely rare. However, the same enthusiast who provided us with the VHS recording of “ANTHOLOGY: JAPANESE TV BROADCAST COMPLETE EDITION” also recorded this one! The picture quality is excellent, not only clear, but also stereo. There’s a particularly heartwarming scene in which the show’s famous announcer laments, “People in their 20s these days don’t understand the Beatles.” There’s also a slightly later excerpt from “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY,” including “Shea Stadium.” The captions, which hint at the show’s preparations for New Year’s Eve, are intriguing. Meanwhile, the commercial that aired after the music video, featuring a famous British actor, is nostalgic. For those who watched it live, this DVD is an incredibly valuable opportunity to reunite with the music video premiere in November, which was even more exciting than the New Year’s Eve broadcast. Broadcast on the Japanese TV program “News Station” on November 20, 1995. 1. Introduction featuring documentaries and interviews. 2. Free As A Bird. End-of-year program promotion by Etsuko Koyama and Hiroshi Hisayama. Includes a few commercials. PRO-SHOT COLOR NTSC Approx. 13 min.
