Description

The eternal scripture that traces the history of The Beatles! The ultimate best album with an expanded and revised version of the original American reprint sound source! ! American edition Capitol original album paper jacket specification 2CD deluxe edition American Capitol edited original best album The Beatles 1967-1970, the first compilation album “1962-1966” (commonly known as the red record) and “1967-1970” (commonly known as the blue record) that chronologically compiled the representative songs of The Beatles released in 1973 in various countries around the world. In 1973, after the breakup of The Beatles, the band decided to release two 2-disc sets as official best albums approved by the band members in order to compete with the unofficial best compilation album “AΩ (The Beatles Alpha Omega)” (VOL.1 & 2, a box set of 120 songs including the Beatles’ best songs and solo songs on a total of 8 LPs), which was sold explosively in the US. The album was planned and produced by Capitol under the direction of their manager at the time, Alan Klein, and the song selection was said to be George Harrison, but in fact it was Alan Steckler (who also selected and edited the album “Hey Jude” and the Rolling Stones’ “Hot Rocks”) at Klein’s instruction. The songs are singles from the UK and the US, and the best songs from the albums, arranged in chronological order, and it became a worldwide hit as an introduction to The Beatles, selling over 7 million sets in the US alone and over 20 million sets worldwide. It was released in various countries around the world, but at the time the sound source was not standardized and the album was produced using sound sources owned by each country, so although the song selection is the same, the recorded sound sources are different, and it contains many versions and mixes unique to the 1960s, which are particularly notable in the UK and the US. It was a standard best album from the record era, but since the original album was released on CD in 1987, it had not been released on CD for a long time, but it was released on CD for the first time in 1993, the 20th anniversary of its release. It was later released as a digitally remastered version in 2010 and a new edition with additional tracks in 2023, but both have a standardized sound source to a global standard, so there are no longer any differences in the sound source around the world like in the record era. CD = Original Capitol Masters. This work, planned and produced in 1973 under the initiative of Capitol in the United States, is different from later CDs based on digital sound sources as it is based on analog masters owned by each country, and the sound sources recorded are different in each country. The Capitol 2-LP set (SKBO-3404) that was in circulation from 1973 to the 1980s during the record era not only contains versions and mixes unique to the 1960s, but also remixes unique to this album, with the left and right stereo separation reversed and songs with slightly different balances, and compared to the other national versions, it has a unique editing style unique to the US Capitol version that can only be heard here. Some obvious differences in mix are “STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER” and “I AM THE WARLUS,” which are known as American mixes that differ from the British mix, but “PENNY LANE,” “HELLO GOODBYE,” and “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE” are newly created versions that are subtly different from the 1960s pseudo-stereo (duophonic) mixes unique to Capitol Records. In addition, the singles “LADY MADONNA”, “HEY JUDE”, “REVOLUTION”, “DON’T LET ME DOWN” and “OLD BROWN SHOE” have different stereo separation from the ones recorded on the US Capitol compilation “HEY JUDE”, and were newly created for this album. They are not just a collection of existing recordings as a best album, but have been remastered for this album. The CD version this time includes all the songs from the original 2-LP album on 2 CDs. The original US Capitol version is a treasure trove of different versions and mixes, more so than the British and Japanese versions based on the original recordings. This time, a new analog master has been used, and the recordings are of higher quality than the compilations of “Dr. Ebbetts” and other albums that were previously distributed. The original analog masters, which can be said to be different from the various digital remasters released in various countries at the time and up to now, have been completely re-released with the latest remastering. In addition, the latter half of each CD contains “Capitol Master Rarities,” which is an additional 8 and 9 songs selected from singles and albums not included in the blue version. Additional Capitol sound sources that are unique to the US versions and mixes, such as the US promo of “Penny Lanes” and the edited version of the White Album recorded on the US reel tape, are also included.
