Description
This full recording of the September 1st live performance at Nippon Budokan by BEAT, a unit recreating the ’80s Crimson sound, was recorded using a multi-stereo IEM matrix audio source. The band members’ on-stage stereo IEM sources, each with a different mix balance, and the digital audience sources were mixed in perfect balance to create a multi-IEM matrix, recreating the event at soundboard level with a hybrid sound that fully captures the atmosphere of the venue. The lineup, which includes original members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, as well as guitarist Steve Vai and former Tool drummer Danny Caillat, had been generating buzz even before their Japan tour, and this truly represents a gathering of exceptional players who rival the original Crimson. The two-part show featured a similar set structure to the previous year’s North American tour, and while it was disappointing that “Red” was the only song not performed, the band continued to play tracks from their ’80s trilogy: “Discipline,” “Beat,” and “Three of a Perfect Pair.” The progression and performance of the show felt like ’80s Crimson had been reborn in 2025. Seven tracks from “Three of a Perfect Pair” were also included, including “Model Man,” a rare number never performed live by Crimson. This Japan-exclusive memorial item perfectly recreates this one-night stand, with sound comparable to the official live performance, and was highly praised by fans from the ’70s and ’80s, as well as those who discovered the group through Steve Vai.
