Description
BADLANDS, formed by Jake E. Lee with former BLACK SABBATH members Ray Gillan and Eric Singer, released their first album “BADLANDS” in May 1989. Their musical sound, which was full of the hard rock sound directly connected to the early ’70s and the richness of blues, and gave a deep groove, was a strong influence on the rock scene at the time, which was returning from L.A. metal to blues. They made an impact and attracted the attention of fans as a “professional band” that was even more popular than their contemporaries Mr. BIG and BLUE MURDER. Their stage debut was in Japan, where Jake has close ties, and six performances were held, starting with the Nakano Sun Plaza performance on June 13, 1989, and ending with the Tokyo Postal Savings Hall performance on June 19. . This “ROCK STEADY” was performed at the Tokyo Postal Savings Hall on June 19th, which was the third performance in Tokyo and the final day of the Japan tour, with a high-quality audience using the same taper recording as the previous day’s performance “LORD KNOWS”. Recorded in source. In contrast to “LORD KNOWS” where the atmosphere of the venue vividly felt the fun that can only be achieved with a live tape, this recording is characterized by a well-balanced and easy-to-listen sound image. Of course, the brightness and the realism of the performance are at a comparable level. By listening and comparing both, you will be able to more clearly understand the different sound textures and impressions at each venue. Furthermore, on this day, you can’t miss that Eric Singer’s drums and Greg Chaisson’s bass sound are recorded with a powerful and attractive sound. The driving groove that explodes in the opening song “Hard Driver” (as the song title suggests) will make the listener go numb as it is the beginning of the live performance! The song selection for the live show has been mostly fixed throughout the performance in Japan, and the band’s performance is also stable. However, since it was the last day of their visit to Japan, the members were in high spirits, and Ray’s outstanding singing in “Dancing On The Edge” and Jake’s excellent solo in “Winter’s Call” were all worth listening to. “Rumblin’ Train” and “Devil’s Stomp” overflowing with the taste of blues are also irresistible! In addition, cover songs such as “Aimless Lady” (GRAND FUNK RAILROAD) and “Rock Steady” (BAD COMPANY), which were played to fill the slots of the full set live, were dyed with their colors and blended seamlessly with BADLANDS’ songs. I’m here. As the live progresses, the sound quality improves, and the famous songs “Dreams In The Dark”, which can be said to be the highlight of the second half (there is a cut due to a tape change at 1:42, but there is no major impact), and “High Wire” also have dynamic sounds. You can enjoy it. At the end, “PURPLE HAZE”, which was performed only on this day in Tokyo, exploded! This also fits like an original song, and the last performance in Japan ends in a heated atmosphere (the recording continues until the end of the performance announcement). This work is a must-listen not only for Jake’s fans but also for ’70s hard rock fans, as it allows you to thoroughly listen to the BADLANDS live performance, which had a solid rock sound that made even the most connoisseurs groan.
