Description

From BLUE OYSTER CULT’s early tour, a new must-listen live album for fans is now available. Prior to the release of “SECRET TREATIES”, December 31, 1973, New York “Academy of Music” performance was recorded for about 43 minutes from the soundboard master. From the “basement” sound of the very early days, to the transitional period when the band’s individuality was established with their 3rd album, you can enjoy the live performance with the best lineup without any throwaway songs! In addition to releasing a series of official live works, they are producing a new studio album for the first time in about 20 years, and the area around BLUE OYSTER CULT (hereinafter referred to as B.O.C.) is becoming more active for the first time in a while. This time, we will release two must-listen soundboard live performances from 1973 that will make B.O.C. enthusiasts even more happy. This is the New York edition on December 31st. Since the February live performance included in the simultaneously released “DETROIT 1973″, B.O.C. has toured the United States almost non-stop. It was a tough schedule with 92 performances until the end of the year. In the meantime, they are also working on the songs that will be included in their 3rd album “SECRET TREATIES”. I can clearly see that the band was in a period of continuous improvement. Here, let’s take a look at the band’s progress from their 2nd album “TYRANNY AND MUTATION” to their 3rd album “SECRET TREATIES.” January-February 1973 North American tour #1 (6 performances) February 4th Detroit performance “DETROIT 1973” ← Simultaneous release February 11th 2nd album “TYRANNY AND MUTATION” announced March-December North American tour #2 ( 92 performances) October 8th Cleveland performance “SOUNDBOARD COLLECTION” (Disc-1) December 31st New York performance ←★This work is here January-March 1974 North American tour (15 performances) April 5th 3rd album “ SECRET TREATIES” Announcement The “New Year Gig” sound source from New Year’s Eve ’73 to New Year’s Day ’74 was known among enthusiasts (in fact, KISS was the opening act on this day). However, it was only in recent years that a master in excellent condition was discovered. This work was made into a disc from materials in particularly good condition provided by overseas enthusiasts. The sound is an air check master with outstanding stability and ease of listening. The taste of the performance has been further elaborated than that of “DETROIT 1973”. However, the decisive difference is the selection of songs. The “SECRET TREATIES” number that was just born during the tour is being played in the early version (in addition, this live is the first live source where you can check the 3rd songs all together). If you organize the songs that can be heard in this work, it is definitely the best selection of early B.O.C.! 1st “Blue Oyster Cult” songs ・Stairway To The Stars/Transmaniacon MC 2nd “TYRANNY AND MUTATION” songs ・Buck’s Boogie (remastered version bonus) 3rd “SECRET TREATIES” songs ・Dominance And Submission/Astronomy/Me 262 cover Song: Born To Be Wild (3rd album, remastered version bonus) Even though the songs are taking a new direction, the performance literally has a cult “basement” sound, which is very typical of this period! “Dominance And Submission”, which had a relatively bright song idea on the album (although there is also a sound image of this recording), gives a feeling of dust and humidity, and the rough and rough-hewn performance is unbearable. The following song, “Astronomy,” also has a different arrangement from the introduction. This song is the band’s signature song and has been remade multiple times. The earliest version will give you the surprise of new discoveries that “you know but don’t know.” In contrast, the live arrangement of “Me 262” is closer to what we know. The approximately 10 minute performance including the band’s jam part is extremely thrilling! The energetic and groovy plays of “Born To Be Wild” and “Buck’s Boogie” that decorate the climax of the live show are not just heavy, but the performance group B.O.C. It’s a shame that it’s not a complete recording of the live performance, but it’s 43 minutes long and can be listened to all at once without getting sluggish. BLUE OYSTER CULT went through the underground era from their debut to “TYRANNY AND MUTATION”, and then came to the surface with “SECRET TREATIES”, which expressed their original individuality, and released “AGENTS OF FORTUNE”, that is, “(Don’t Fear)”. With the birth of “The Reaper,” we will take a leap forward into “a place where the sun shines.” At this time, just before the release of their third album, they were, so to speak, “semi-underground residents.” It’s a core era that can’t be seen anywhere else in the band’s long history. If you listen to the simultaneously released “DETROIT 1973” (February), the Cleveland performance of “SOUNDBOARD COLLECTION” (Disc-1/October), and this work, you should be able to understand the 1973 B.O.C. live in general. Please check out the changing appearance of B.O.C. in this must-listen for enthusiasts! You can check the “Secret Treaties” number before the album was released (I feel like the live performance is still finalizing the arrangement) By listening to the original sound source in December after going through Detroit in February and Cleveland in October, 1973 You can now check changes in BOC. Live at Academy Of Music, New York City, NY, USA 31st December 1973 SBD (42:51) 1 Intro 2 Dominance and Submission 3 Astronomy 4 Me 262 5 Stairway To The Stars 6 Transmaniacon MC 7 Born To Be Wild 8 Buck’s Boogie Eric Bloom – Guitar, Vocal Donald “Buck Dharma” Roose r- Guitar, Vocal Allen Lanier – Keyboard, Guitar Joe Bouchard – Bass Albert Bouchard – Drums SOUNDBOARD RECORDING
