Description
Angie Stone, the number one diva in the neo-soul world. Her charm can be seen in a live performance recorded on a Blu-ray in professional shots and HD quality 1080P. I think you can tell from this title alone that she is a very amazing person. The Sequence, the first female group to appear in 1979 from Sugarhill Records, a pioneering label in hip-hop. Angie Stone, who was 14 years old at the time, was a member of the group. She later joined Mantronix, became a leader in Vertical Hold, and formed Devox in 1996. At that time, she met D’Angelo, a young vocalist who was unknown at the time, and had her second child. Angie had a great influence on his debut album “Brown Sugar”, and later participated in the composition and backing vocals on “Voodoo” in 2000. Then, she released her first solo album “Black Diamond” at the last minute. From there, “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” became a huge hit, topping the R&B charts for 10 consecutive weeks, and she became one of the most important people in neo-soul. However, she divorced D’Angelo. This is a complete recording of Angie’s first appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival, a live performance in 2000 after the release of “Black Diamond”. The opening is a live performance of the wonderful song “Starship”, which is not included in the album. A light funk with the atmosphere of JB’s “Pay Back” is played as a bridge, and the funky cutting leads to the thrilling “Visions”. Then there is “Bone 2 Pic” in the style of Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love”, “I Can Understnd It”, a new song at the time (it does not seem to be a cover of Bobby Womack, and it may still be unreleased) with guitar cutting that creates a danceable groove, “Love Junkie” approaching with black funkiness, and Al Green’s “Love and Happiness” performed in a gospel manner. The performance of “Everyday,” which was used in the movie “Money Talks” and was written with D’Angelo, was a cool arrangement that mixed in Sade’s “The Sweetest Taboo” and had the audience sing along after Angie called it a remix. Then, the performance ended with a liberating performance of “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” No, it didn’t end there, and they performed The Sequence’s “Funk You Up” in a super cool jazz-funk arrangement! The members at this time included a 16-year-old keyboardist and an 18-year-old drummer, and it was amazing how talented they were despite their young age. And Angie was already in the music industry in the 1980s, so she has the air of a lady soul and is quite stable. There is no guitar, but the rest is a studio live video of 2 Meter Sessions by NSJ members. The soulful performance of the masterpiece “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” is followed by a jazzy arrangement of Simply Red’s (specifically, Frantic Elevators’ 1982 album, which he previously participated in) “Holding Back The Years,” and then a “Band Medley” without a break. The base of this performance is Gap Band’s “Shake Your Booty,” and it’s a funky jam that incorporates phrases from Funkadelic’s “(Not Just) Knee Deep.” The neo-soul manner of “Bone 2 Pic,” Al Green’s “Love and Happiness,” and the swinging “Everyday” are uplifting, and the finish makes you want to stay in this world even more is a nice touch. And then there’s Gru’s jazz mataz, third album “Streetsoul,” where Angie guest-starred on “Keep Your Worries,” and this is a live performance of that. The elegant piano is none other than Herbie Hancock! Get lost in this pure blend of hip hop and jazz.
