Description
The news of the death of Allan Holdsworth, whose unique playing style influenced many musicians, including Van Halen, arrived on April 16, 2017. This title is a collection of precious live footage of professional shots as a memorial item for this great guitarist. The first half of the album is a complete 71-minute recording of the performance at the “Frankfurt Jazz Festival” held in Germany on February 16, 1986, in the best quality master footage available. The set mainly consists of songs from “Atavachron,” released in the same year, when syntax was first fully introduced, and also includes songs from “Road Games” and “Metal Fatigue.” Since the band hasn’t covered many works from this period since then, this is a must-see video for fans. In the second half, a 61-minute recording of their appearance at the annual jazz festival “31 Leverkusener Jazztage” on November 9, 2011, also held in Leverkusen, Germany, is recorded from the TV on-air master. First of all, for the past few years, they have been rearranging their rhythm sections in various ways, and while each member has been developing an ensemble full of originality, here they perform a wonderful rhythm combination in a trio with jazz bassists Ernest Tibbs and Chad Wackerman. In particular, Chad’s drumming, which focuses on the exact entry and the end of the rhythm by the fill-in, is excellent, and the intertwining with the guitar and bass is exquisite. In addition, Holdsworth also produces a variety of tones and phrases by making full use of the console (Magic Stomp), which he has been using frequently in recent years. Check out the destructive and transcendent guitar solo in the final song “Letters Of Marque” and Tibbs’ bass, which uses a lot of six-strings. This was a time when the band was showing signs of new potential as a trio, but after this, due to poor health, the number of live performances decreased year by year, causing concern for fans. This is also a must-see video for fans, as it gives you plenty of enjoyment of their performance when they were still in good health. 01.Introduction/02.Three Sheets To The Wind/03.Letters Of Marque/04.Tokyo Dream/05.Looking Glass/06.Atavachron/07.Non-Brewed Condiment/08.White Line/09.Shallow Sea/10.Devil Take The Hindmost [Frankfurt Jazz Festival 1986: at Kongresshalle, Frankfurt, Germany February 16th 1986] â—‡ Allan Holdsworth – Guitar, Synth-Axe / Gary Husband: – Drums / Jimmy Johnson – Bass / Kei Akagi – Keyboards 01.Introduction/02.Leave Them On/03.Fred/04.Water On The Brain/05.Madame Vintage/Above & Below/The Things You See/06.The Fifth/07.Letters Of Marque/08.Proto Cosmos [31.
