Description

The performance at Wolfgang in San Francisco on February 7, 1985, which was released in conjunction with the release of “METAL FATIGUE,” was recorded with a superb audience recording. It is a wonderful and ideal sound image in which the band sound and the audience match perfectly! Many recordings from this period were released, such as “Tokyo ’85,” “Osaka ’85,” and “Roxy Night” with Eddie Van Halen and Jeff Berlin in April, from the Japanese tour the following March, but this recording is definitely in a class of its own in terms of both sound quality and performance, and is full of charm that allows you to re-recognize Holdsworth’s abilities. The set list includes Tokyo Dream, Road Games, Material Real from “Road Games”, White Line, LettersOf Marque, Shallow Sea from “I.O.U.”, Devil Take The Hindmost, Panic Station, Metal Fatigue from “Metal Fatigue”, and other popular songs that fans love from the first three albums. The five-member ensemble that beautifully directs these best songs is overwhelming from start to finish! The climax is already reached from the opening Tokyo Dream, where Alan plays almost exactly the right amount of interplay and the exquisite contrast of Jimmy and Chad’s after beats can be heard, and this tension continues to push forward to the end without any break! The second half, centered around “Metal Fatigue,” is the highlight of the album. Alan’s chords in the back of the song melody create the ultimate beautiful voicing in Panic Station, and the four-part Metal Fatigue is irresistible with its four-part 4-verse (although there is an incident where Alan’s sound does not come out during the A-melody part after the intro…). In particular, the keyboard is Larry Cohen instead of Gordon Beck this time, and the brilliant solo in Devil Take The Hindmost and the backing make the advanced ensemble even more thrilling. The must-listen is the four-person jam at the end, which will knock you out completely with the vivid rhythm development of Latin-style unison, double ten-drop, and odd time signatures, and the high-speed solo battle! This is the ultimate item that luxuriously packages the peak period just before Holdsworth’s transition (after “Atavachron,” the vocals become less important and the instrumental color becomes stronger). Please enjoy the unique performance that unfolds with the best lineup! Live at Wolfgang’s, San Francisco, CA 7th February 1985 TRULY AMAZING SOUND Disc 1 1. Tokyo Dream 2. Road Games 3. White Line 4.
