Description
This is a complete recording of a gig held at a jazz club in Leverkusen, Germany on March 21st, from the Euro tour following their performance in Japan in February 2009, using a high-quality audience recording with DAT digital master. Since it was a gig at a small club, the sound of each instrument is very well balanced, and Holdsworth’s delicate guitar tone is especially clear. Since the previous year, the members have been rearranged in various rhythm sections centered around Jimmy Johnson, Gary Husband, Chad Wackerman, Ernest Tibbs, and others, and each member has been developing an ensemble full of originality. On this German tour, Gary Husband accompanied them instead of Chad Wackerman, who participated in the Japanese performance, and they showed a performance with a stronger jazz essence. The set is similar to that of their February visit to Japan, and Gary’s orthodox playing, which is different from Chad’s complex drumming, gives a different impression even though the same songs are played. Jimmy’s bass also has a deep, resonant bass that is refreshing and blends well with Holdsworth’s guitar, showing their good compatibility. Holdsworth also uses the console (Magic Stomp) that he has been using a lot in recent years to produce a variety of tones and phrases, and captivates the audience with his fast legato playing and soft sounds that mix unique chords and scales in his solos.
