Description
Prior to the reunion of KISS, Ace Frehley was warming up his old friendship with Peter Criss on his solo tour in 1995. Here is a super close-up video that allows you to experience the scene at its best. This work was filmed at the “San Diego performance on July 29, 1995”. It’s a super-class audience shot… probably. The biggest point of this work is the strange quality that is so far removed from the audience that it makes you feel unreliable, but first of all, the position of the show. 1995 was the year they released “KISS UNPLUGGED,” which was a major turning point for them, so let’s take a look back at their schedule from that time as well.・January 1st: Brooklyn performance・February 19th-25th: North America #1 (3 performances)・March 13th-25th: North America #2 (4 performances)・May 25th-28th: North America #3 (4 performances)・June 13th: Oslo performance・June 22nd-August 8th: North America #4 (26 performances)←★Here★*August 9th: MTV appearance “KISS UNPLUGGED”・August 11th+12th: North America #5 (2 performances)・September 2nd-30th: North America #6 (8 performances)・November 1st-December 16th: North America #7 (24 performances)This is Ace Frehley in 1995. When lined up like this, they seem to be active, but if you look closely, they mainly do casual activities with a few performances a month. Only “North America # 4” and “North America # 7” were so-called “tours” that moved between stages every night. Among them, the San Diego performance of this work is the former. It was the 18th performance of “North America # 4”, which was 11 days away from the fateful “KISS UNPLUGGED”. This work recorded at such a show is a super shot that makes you wonder “Is this the audience …? Isn’t it?” What is amazing, that position? Apparently the scene seems to be a small club, but it is completely in the front row … or rather, it feels like it is half on the stage. It feels like you are looking at Ace from the left side, and it is so close that you can see the back of the monitor amplifier without any hiding. The audience is not reflected at all until you look back between songs, and if there was no reaction from the MC between songs, it is a video of “only the band and myself” that you would think it was a studio rehearsal. This is just a guess, but I think it was a shot taken by a staff member for fodder. Richie Scarlett, who plays guitar with Ace, comes over to the camera to appeal to the camera when he is playing solo, and even high-fives Ace. In the mid-90s, not everyone was taking photos like today, and if Axl Rose found you, you would get punched. He was close enough to hit you if you reached out, and he was so familiar with the members that it was hard to believe he was just a fan. Anyway, this exclusive shot depicts a full show that covers a wide range of careers. Let’s organize the contents here. KISS numbers: KISS: Nothin’ To Lose (★), Cold Gin, Deuce, HOTTER THAN HELL: Strange Ways (★), Watchin’ You, Parasite, DRESSED TO KILL: Rock and Roll All Nite (★), Love Her All I Can, DESTROYER: Detroit Rock City, LOVE GUN: Shock Me, ALIVE II: Rocket Ride Solo: ACE FREHLEY: Rip It Out, New York Groove, FREHLEY’S COMET: Breakou, TROUBLE WALKIN’: 2 Young 2 Die, ANOMALY: Sister Others: Louie Louie, Space Jam, Medley: Insane, Trouble Walkin’, Rock Soldiers, Speedin’ Back To My Baby, Hard Times *Note: Songs marked with “★” feature Peter Criss. …And so it goes. A barrage of great songs, some of which are even compressed into a medley. The middle part is particularly noteworthy. It’s three songs with Peter Criss. As soon as Ace called out his name, the temperature in the small club rose by about 5 degrees and Peter appeared. However, Peter’s role is not drums but vocals. He sings “Strange Ways” with a tambourine in hand, and is the main chorus for “Nothin’ To Lose” and “Rock and Roll All Nite”. They’re probably all drunk, but they’re hugging each member while staggering around the stage, and enjoying the chorus of “Rock and Roll All Nite!” with the audience. Another interesting song is “Breakout”. Here, Ace starts with the words “For Eric Carr!” and Richie sings. Anyway, it’s a shot in front of you that gives you a homely mood and a closed room feeling. Rather than being a concert audience, you can become Ace’s friend and participate in the club party. A secret one that shares an experience that can only be envied. A super-class audience shot of the “San Diego performance on July 29, 1995″…or rather, it was probably taken by someone related to the band. It was captured from the front row of a small club, with a close-up feeling as if you were half on the stage. You can even see Ace’s monitor amp from the back (Ritchie Scarlett looks at the camera and high-fives Ace…it’s an intimacy that is impossible for ordinary fans). This is a superb video that allows you to enjoy a wide range of masterpieces from a wide range of careers, including three songs in which Peter Criss participates as a vocalist, right in front of you.
