Description

This is a reissue of a masterpiece known as the “only one live in Japan”. This work is a famous recording known for the shocking work “AT BUDOKAN” that was released in the past. It is a live album that was re-digitized using the latest technology from the original cassette given to it by the recorder himself. To explain this work, it is necessary to start with the “miracle live album” “AT BUDOKAN”. To do that, let’s go back a little in time first… [The one and only “ABBA in Japan” album] ABBA, who became a social phenomenon, only toured Japan once. It was in March 1980 (1978 was a promotional visit to Japan). Of course, the archipelago was crazy about ABBA at the height of their popularity. A large-scale tour of 11 performances from Tohoku to Kyushu was realized. However, for some reason, no record of the live performance was left. Everyone wanted it, and especially after the breakup in 1982, the desire only grew. However, not a single live album that answered that was released. This situation changed in 2001, 21 years after their Japan tour. Finally, a recording of the audience from their Japan tour was unearthed by the Masterport label. That was “AT BUDOKAN”. Another 16 years have passed since then, but no other records have been found. It is still the one and only “Live in Japan”. Contained in “AT BUDOKAN” is the “March 17, 1980: Nippon Budokan” performance. Let’s take a look back at their one and only Japan tour. “ABBA JAPAN TOUR 1980” ・March 12th + 13th: Nippon Budokan (2 performances) ・March 14th: Koriyama General Gymnasium ・March 17th + 18th: Nippon Budokan (2 performances) ←★Here★ ・March 20th: Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium ・March 21st + 22nd: Osaka Festival Hall (2 performances) ・March 24th: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium ・March 26th + 27th: Nippon Budokan (2 performances) A total of 11 performances. Despite being their first visit to Japan, they had a tremendous schedule of three performances at Nippon Budokan on two consecutive days, but this work was the third concert. [Original recording of the finest sound] It is surprising that no recording was left even though such a show was realized, but the only record, “AT BUDOKAN”, is a beautiful recording that blows away such rarity. It has been digitized directly from the original cassette handed over by the recorder himself, and it is extremely fresh. Of course, it is an audience recording with plenty of air at the time, but the beauty of the singing voice that reaches you straight and the details of the performance are extremely vivid. Although there is some venue sound, it is also transparent and beautifully colors the singing voice. This work is a re-digitalization of the original master of such “AT BUDOKAN” with the latest technology. “Digitalization from analog cassette” is a unique field, so it was still immature in 2001. However, today’s equipment and environment have evolved significantly. In fact, this work is far more natural and clear than “AT BUDOKAN”. We have succeeded in transferring the sound that the original cassette originally contained to a single particle to a CD. Such a sound depicts the truth of “ABBA in Japan”. This work is a superb recording dominated by musical sounds and singing voices, but even if it is subtle, it is surely engraved with the “fragrance of the era”. The high-pitched screams that erupted at the beginning of the show, the cheers of “Benny!”, “Annaa!!”, “Agnetta!” flying around in katakana. And the sea of neatly coordinated clapping as if it were a music class… Although the atmosphere was very exciting from beginning to end, it was a little different from the atmosphere of many artists who come to Japan. Perhaps “Dancing Queen” is symbolic. As the screams of excitement erupted at the intro, the encouragement of “Stand up! Come on, Everybody!!” came in… Everyone was sitting down in the midst of all that excitement!? Another song that gives a strong “Japanese” feel is “I Have A Dream”. Japanese children appeared on stage and sang in chorus in Japanese. The angelic choir sang the Japanese lyrics of “Whispering angelic voices ♪”. Even after the song ended, when they said “One more time, sing it now” and performed it again, the cheering clapping got even stronger. And then, the screams of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” rise again… The popularity and presence of ABBA, which had penetrated even into the living rooms of living rooms, are clearly reflected. [Bonus tracks that exude the scent of the era] The concert ends with real voices such as “My ears are ringing” and “I’m going to have hearing loss.” This rare and exquisite live performance is a treasure in itself, but this work also includes three bonus tracks that exude the scent of the era. First, a valuable telephone interview that was broadcast on a Japanese radio program. The date and time of the program recording have been lost, but the content seems to be from the time of the release of “SUPER TROUPER”. Although it is short, it is an interview with all four members, and they talk about the latest tour status, live recordings, musical hobbies, and other very interesting stories in their own voices. The last question is “How is the teamwork?” At that time, Agnetha and Bjorn had already divorced, and Benny and Frida were still married, so it was a delicate time. The show’s personality prefaces the question by saying, “I’m going to ask you a very interesting question,” and it’s exactly what the viewers were wondering about. Even in places like this, the quality and image of ABBA’s popularity at the time is apparent. Of course, the show’s personality translates the answer into Japanese. The second track is the live performance of “Dancing Queen” that was played at the end of the show. It is a stereo soundboard of the “November 10, 1979 Wembley Arena performance.” And the third track is the rare single “SLIPPING THROUGH MY FINGERS.” It was a single made for a Coca-Cola campaign in 1981, and only people who won the lottery could get it. This work is created from the actual single. The Japan tour that captivated the whole of Japan, but only happened once. This is the “only one” live album that conveys the scene. A superb edition that digitizes the air and smell that the original cassette inhaled at the scene without missing a beat.
