Description

The scent of the era when the 70s were over and the new 80s were about to begin. A radio album with that atmosphere flowing from the speakers has been decided to be released. This work contains the “London performance on November 10, 1979”. It was a show held at Wembley Arena immediately after the release of “GREATEST HITS VOL.2”, and a few years ago it was made official as “LIVE AT WEMBLEY ARENA”. This is the soundboard recording. Of course, this work is completely different from such official products. It was a radio program aired by a certain public broadcasting station in August 1980, a music special titled “BBC LIVE”. It was recorded by a domestic record enthusiast. Unlike the official work recorded in the full show, it is a live album edited and broadcast along the approximately one-hour broadcast frame. Despite being officially released, the reason we have introduced it is because the sound is so wonderful and tasteful. Air checks are greatly influenced by equipment and radio conditions, but this work is truly superb. There is no sign of aging or dubbing deterioration, and the tape is stable. The glossy sound runs through the entire work from beginning to end. Normally, it would be called an “official-class sound board,” but this show is a genuine official product, “LIVE AT WEMBLEY ARENA.” And this work is different from the official sound. The difference is, in a word, analog feeling. The official version released in 2014 was extremely clear with digital mastering. It was a sound with vividly prominent details and peaks that sparkled. In contrast, this work is a broadcast in the analog era. The sound board’s adhesion and the undisturbed glossiness are equivalent to the official version, but the sound is warm and the melody is full of tolerance. This feeling is exactly like radio. The scene of the room where I was looking forward to the broadcast time comes to mind, and the smell of the sound is fragrant. For example, their voices come through crystal clear on the official CD, but this work speaks easily and gently envelops you. It’s a sound that tickles your nose with a nostalgia that’s completely different from playing a remastered CD. The masterpieces depicted with such a sound really touch the heart. It’s so dense that it could almost be called a “live version of GREATEST HITS VOL.2”, and 8 of the 12 songs are from that best album. Other than that, there are shining masterpieces such as “Voulez-Vous”, “I Have A Dream”, “Hole In Your Soul”, and “Waterloo”. What makes you feel even more nostalgic is after the grand finale with the last song “Waterloo”. At the end of the program, a famous DJ, who is also a specialty of the program, makes a comment. There, he describes ABBA’s service spirit as “entertainer’s spirit”, and the real-time feeling is exuded in an unexpected place. Then, even though the DJ is commenting, the program fades out and the time signal sounds. The vague feeling of the era overflows from every corner. At the end of the 1970s, it seemed natural for ABBA to produce hit songs one after another. This radio album depicts that glorious era not only through the melody and singing voice, but also through the sound itself. This live album is filled with the scent of the era that could only be preserved by a recording enthusiast.
