Description
“ASYLUM” was released in 1985 with Bruce Kulick officially joining. A definitive edition that covers the demos/outtakes born from that production session is now available. What is permanently preserved in this work is a total of 21 tracks and approximately 67 minutes of studio recording. At our store, we have introduced demo albums that complement historical masterpieces such as “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT,” “HOT IN THE SHADE,” and “REVENGE,” but this work is the “ASYLUM version.” 1985 was an incredibly prolific year for KISS (especially Gene Simmons). This work is a treasure trove of high-quality unreleased material that eloquently demonstrates this. Some of them eventually came to fruition in “ASYLUM,” but many of them remained hidden deep in the archives and finally appeared after about 40 years. These sound sources, which were unearthed through unique sources, boast the highest updated quality, and can almost be described as “an entire new KISS album.” There are many songs whose titles are not familiar to you, but they are not half-finished, and are lined up with famous songs that could have been world-shaking hits had they been released at the time. The songs in this work are in the same order as the recorded sources, but to make it easier to understand, I will divide them into four sections: “Songs included in ASYLUM,” “Songs included in VAULT,” “Composed by Eric Carr,” and “Other songs not included in the album.” Songs included in ASYLUM (3 songs, 4 takes) “Secretly Cruel (2 takes)” The album “ASYLUM” contained 10 songs, but only 3 songs have been discovered in demos/outtakes. First up is “Secretly Cruel.” These are two takes of an arrangement that is almost complete, but each one shows a different approach, and you can get a peek at the final stages of finalization leading up to the final version. A wonderfully raw demo of a song from the “Trial By Fire” album. This is a take that is highly worth listening to, as it retains the raw energy before it has been polished. “Any Way You Slice It” This is also a lively demo version of a song from the album. If you compare it to the finished version, you can clearly see the process of how the song was created. VAULT songs (5 songs) “Nine Lives” A masterpiece that was not included in the album, but was completed perfectly. Originally, it should have been included in “ASYLUM” and has a perfect level of perfection. It’s a hidden gem that makes you wonder why it was rejected, and it later saw the light of day in Gene’s VAULT box. “It’s Gonna Be Alright (1985 Version)” A song with a strange fate. It first appeared in the sessions for Gene’s solo album, went on to become the first song recorded on Creatures of the Night, and was recorded here again on the ASYLUM sessions in 1985. Despite this, for reasons known only to God, it did not make it into the album again this time. It’s a flavorful number that even makes you feel tenacity. “I Have Just Begun To Fight (1985 Version)” A 1985 version of a song that was already recorded in the 1970s. Since it has been re-recorded over many years, it is fun to enjoy the different expressions from each era. “Take It Like A Man (1985 Version)” A song that came back from the “LICK IT UP” session. However, this time too, it did not make it onto the album. This is a song that I had been given many chances to work on, but was never hired, which was a strange coincidence. “We Won’t Take It Anymore (1985 Version)” This is also a recycled song from the “LICK IT UP” session, and is a re-recorded version with a different appearance. You can see how the song continues to live on, changing its form. Songs not included in the album (7 songs, 8 takes) “100%” “Hello, Hello” “What You See Is What You Get” “Keep Your Tail Between Your Legs” Four album track candidates that were almost completed but remained unreleased. Given its high level of perfection, it is a shame why it was shelved. It’s a secret treasure that even makes you feel like it has the potential to be a hit. “Daily Planet” (1985 Version) A song that Gene wrote in 1975, and has been pulled from the archives from time to time, including on his solo album and “ROCK AND ROLL OVER.” However, the journey of this song as KISS will reach its end with this “ASYLUM” session. Gene later provided this song to BLACK ‘N BLUE, SILENT RAGE, and SLEEZE BEEZ. “Russian Roulette” This title will appear again on “SONIC BOOM” in 2009, but this song is completely different from that and is an independent song. This is a typical and tasteful composition that is full of the Gene Simmons characteristics of the mid-1980s. This song, also known as “Nobody’s Perfect” (2 takes) and “Rotten To The Core”, was eventually included in “SONIC BOOM” as “(Yes I Know) Nobody’s Perfect” in a slightly different form. This work includes two takes: an instrumental and a song. You can carefully trace the original form of the song. Composed by Eric Carr (4 songs): “Nasty Boys”, “(You Make Me) Crazy”, “Can You Feel It?”, “Midnight Stranger”, this work concludes with four gems composed by the beloved Eric Carr. Both songs were unfortunately removed from the album as Gene and Paul’s songs took priority. “Nasty Boys,” “(You Make Me) Crazy,” and “Can You Feel It?” were included on “ROCKOLOGY,” and “Midnight Stranger” was included on “UNFINISHED BUSINESS.” Eric then thought of offering these songs to HARI KARI, a female band he was working on through his management and production company Streetgang. These four irreplaceable songs are filled with Eric’s talent not only as a drummer but also as a songwriter. That’s all 21 takes. This is a 1985 treasure collection created by KISS, centered on the prolific Gene Simmons. “Nine Lives”, which was originally included in “ASYLUM” and boasts a perfect level of perfection, “It’s Gonna Be Alright”, which was recorded many times but kept failing to be selected, and 4 gem tracks left behind by the beloved Eric Carr, etc. “Almost an entire new KISS album” brought back from the archives after about 40 years. A definitive edition that covers demos/outtakes born from the “ASYLUM” sessions. It is a compilation of the highest quality that was discovered through unique sources, and is full of hidden treasures such as “Nine Lives” which is a perfect song that should have been included in “ASYLUM”, “It’s Gonna Be Alright” which was recorded many times but kept failing, and a group of masterpieces left behind by the beloved Eric Carr. It is “almost an entire new KISS album” that has been revived after about 40 years. (66:46) 1. Nine Lives 2. Secretly Cruel 3. Secretly Cruel (Take 2) 4. It’s Gonna Be Allright (1985 Version) 5.
