Jackson Browne / NY, USA 2015 2 Days Complete Multi-Cam Edition

Just as we were still reeling from the impact of “PORT CHESTER 2015 SOUNDBOARD,” which captured two nights of Jackson Browne’s Port Chester performances, we’ve now discovered professional-shot footage of both nights together! The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester is a historic concert hall built in 1926, but underwent a major renovation in 2012. At that time, a filming system was installed that projected live footage of the day onto monitors in the venue lobby. The footage that has now been unearthed is the result of this system, covering two nights. Although it’s professional-shot footage intended for the venue lobby, the multi-angle filming is at a level that can be enjoyed as a live video, and the picture quality is surprisingly excellent. What’s impressive is that, despite being lobby footage, the angles aren’t biased towards Jackson. Thanks to the multi-angle perspective, each band member is clearly captured. Above all, this tour featured a luxurious lineup, with Larry Campbell not only serving as the opening act but also participating as the second guitarist in Jackson’s band. The ability to visually enjoy this extravagant formation is something only professional-shot footage can provide. Furthermore, while we could see in the previous soundboard recording that Campbell’s wife, Theresa Williams, performed with Jackson in the first half of the show, including “My Opening Farewell,” this video clearly shows her reappearing with an acoustic guitar in hand for “Take It Easy” and “Our Lady Of The Well” towards the end of the show. For fans who might be thinking, “Does this mean the previous ‘PORT CHESTER 2015 SOUNDBOARD’ is no longer necessary?”, rest assured. While the previous release was a superb stereo soundboard, this video and audio are in mono. Moreover, the video on the first day only includes “The Long Way Around” from the middle, and “The Pretender” and “Doctor My Eyes” are essentially not included. These points clearly indicate that the video was originally filmed for use in the venue lobby, and at the same time, you should understand that the value of last week’s stereo soundboard remains completely undiminished. Above all, the picture quality is perfect, and there are plenty of highlights that can only be seen on video. As mentioned earlier, the camera work is incredibly well done, and moments like the late Jeff Young providing backing vocals for Jackson are truly moving. What’s more, the second day even includes some unexpected incidents. First, there’s the scene I mentioned in last week’s soundboard review where Jackson forgets the lyrics at the beginning of the new song “Leaving Winslow.” Watching the video, it’s quite endearing to see him chuckling and cursing himself. And then there’s the grand finale, “The Load-Out.” Just as they’re about to start, the piano breaks down. Jackson asks his roadie for help, but it doesn’t seem to be fixed immediately. So he quickly grabs his Stratocaster and launches into an incredibly rare performance, accompanying himself on guitar from “The Load-Out” to “Stay.” With its superb picture and sound quality, this professionally shot footage is already a remarkable achievement in itself, allowing us to fully enjoy both days of performances, but it also includes these unexpected incidents that practically scream, “You have to see this on video!” This is truly an astonishing discovery.
