Description

UFO during the Atomic Tommy M era shines with a brilliance unlike any other period. Now, a live album has arrived that allows you to experience that rare live performance in 100% authentic form. This album captures the “Toronto performance on June 18, 1986,” a powerful audience recording. While the official Oxford performance video “THE MISDEMEANOUR TOUR,” as well as “NORWICH 1985” and “OFFENBACH 1986,” are also very popular from the “MISDEMEANOR” era, this album is from a different period. To understand the context, let’s first take a look at the overview of their activities at that time. 1984: December – UFO restarts; December 8-22: UK #1 (13 shows) 1985: May 26: Performed at HEAVY SOUND FESTIVAL; June 22: Performed at THE RETURN OF THE KNEBWORTH FAYRE; November – ‘MISDEMEANOR’ released; November 12-30: UK #2 (16 shows) ← *Official video 1986: March 7 – May 4: Europe (20 shows) ← *OFFENBACH 1986: May 26 – August 5: North America (52 shows) ← ★HERE★ A private recording that lets you experience the end of the Tommy M era in a club. This is UFO from 1984-1986. Speaking of the Tommy era, the EP ‘AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ was released in 1988, but by then Tommy had already left the band. Their actual live performances ended in August 1986. This Toronto concert was the 19th show of their “North American” leg. While “NORWICH 1985” and “OFFENBACH 1986” are both European recordings, this one captures the very end of Tommy’s era as it was heading towards collapse. In North America, they performed a 74-minute club gig as the sole headliner, making it a fascinating period both historically and musically. This recording, which perfectly captures that moment, is a powerful and clear masterpiece. The sound is raw and unmistakably audience-like, yet it never feels distant. The venue, “Rock ‘n Roll Heaven,” is a club with a capacity of about 900 people, roughly the size of a slightly smaller version of Club Citta Kawasaki in Japan. That sense of space is reflected in the sound, with a powerful, thick core that comes right at you. The bass and guitar are particularly outstanding. The bass has a clear, distinct attack, and the groove created by these attacks is truly rich. Then there’s Atomic Tommy M’s guitar. It’s incredibly clear, down to the smallest detail. He’s known among their past guitarists for his flashy LA metal style, and everything from the gritty edges to the ever-changing whammy bar techniques is sharp and vivid. If you close your eyes, you can almost see the depth of his fingers as he bends the strings. A full show that includes classics not found in official footage This high-definition sound captures a full show packed with precious ‘MISDEMEANOR’ tracks. There are songs that can’t be heard in the official pro-shot footage, which is symbolic of this era, so let’s compare and organize them. New songs (7 tracks) – Miss Demeanor: Heaven’s Gate / Meanstreets / Name of Love / The Only Ones / Wreckless / Night Run – Single: The Chase Classics (5 tracks) – Too Hot to Handle (★) / Only You Can Rock Me / Lights Out (★) / Doctor Doctor / Shoot Shoot (★) *Note: Tracks marked with “★” were not included in the official video “THE MISDEMEANOUR TOUR”. …and so on. The official pro-shot was edited to about 60 minutes with an emphasis on new songs, but this is a full show that runs straight through at about 74 minutes. “Too Hot to Handle,” “Lights Out,” and “Shoot Shoot,” which were cut from the official release, and three Schenker-era classics have been reimagined with Tommy’s technical guitar. Historically, the Atomic Tommy M era never saw a commercial resurgence. However, while unleashing flashy, shredding guitar work that rivaled LA metal bands, his sense of balance—where even classics sounded surprisingly natural without any attempt to imitate Schenker—was truly unique. This newly unearthed live album allows you to experience this often-overlooked era in the heart of club sound at close range. It’s a newly discovered audience recording of the Atomic Tommy M era’s “June 18, 1986 Toronto performance.” This North American club gig from the very end of the Tommy era features a full show with great tracks not found in official videos, such as “Too Hot to Handle,” “Lights Out,” and “Shoot Shoot,” which you can experience firsthand in high-definition sound at close range.
