Description
This is a 1975 live recording by the quintet of acoustic bass giant Charles Mingus. This was a period when he was quite active, having released the albums “CANGES ONE” and “CANGES TWO”. The quartet members are the same as those on those albums. You might think there are only four tracks, but each one is quite long, with “SUE’S CHANGES” exceeding 30 minutes. Mingus, who pioneered a new world of jazz as a composer with representative works such as “Pithecanthropus Erectus” and “The Clown” in the past, also showed superb improvisation in the 70s. His passionate performances with the legendary duo of George Adams and Don Pullen, which seem to be free jazz but just shy of going that far, are a must-listen. The sound quality is excellent as it is a soundboard recording, making it a great title that even beginners can enjoy with ease.
