Description

SUPERTRAMP in 1983, with Roger Hodgson’s departure imminent. A new masterpiece has arrived, capturing the band’s final performance of their golden age by a master of recording. This album features the “Inglewood concert on September 23, 1983,” a superb audience recording by recording history giant Mike Millard. While Millard’s masterpiece “L.A. FORUM 1979 2ND NIGHT” has also been very well received, this album is from a completely different era: “…FAMOUS LAST WORDS…”. The masterpiece pro-shot “MUNICH 1983” is also a classic, so let’s first take a look at the overview of their activities at the time and examine their relative positions. 1982 (October 29th: “…FAMOUS LAST WORDS…” released) 1983 – June 1st to July 24th: Europe (28 shows) ← *MUNICH 1983 – August 5th to September 25th: North America (37 shows) ← ★HERE★ (Roger Hodgson leaves) This was SUPERTRAMP in 1982/1983. It was their first tour in four years, but Roger left the band after it ended. The Inglewood performance on this album was the 35th show of the “North America” leg, which was nearing its end. It was the first of the last three shows Roger participated in. This recording is also from just before Millard took a temporary break from his activities. After recording Joe Walsh the day after this album was released, he stayed away from taping until 1988, after the ARMS charity in December of the same year. For both SUPERTRAMP and Millard, it was the night when an era was coming to an end. A masterpiece recording that surpasses even soundboard quality. This release, which vacuum-packs such a show, is the first-generation master of the absolute master, Millard. The sound is more superb than ever. In fact, the unearthed cassette itself was said to have deteriorated, but the prestigious “JEMS” put in their best effort to restore it before releasing it. Even in this release, there is still some instability at the beginning, which seems to be due to tape deterioration, but it stabilizes perfectly within a minute. After it stabilizes, an ultra-close, zero-distance sound spreads out, and the fineness of detail and separation are on another level. It almost feels like it’s to be expected from Millard, but this time it’s even more glossy. Each note has a subtle resonance, which creates a sparkling brilliance. In fact, the ultra-directness of the performance sound itself is so great that I would say it’s “perfect soundboard quality,” but it has a beauty that is on a different level from that roughness. In fact, it is even better than the soundboard audio of the masterpiece pro-shot “MUNICH 1983.” It’s a beautiful, luminous sound that I would call a “fully official-level audience.” Rare songs are also included, and the stage is on the verge of collapse. The radiant sound depicts the truth of SUPERTRAMP when it was on the brink of collapse. Unfortunately, five songs, “From Now On,” “Give A Little Bit,” “Waiting So Long,” “The Logical Song,” and “Goodbye Stranger,” are not included, but you can still enjoy repertoire that is not on ‘MUNICH 1983’. Let’s organize the setlist here while comparing it. Famous Last Words (4 songs) – Crazy (★) / It’s Raining Again / Put On Your Old Brown Shoes / Don’t Leave Me Now (★★) Classics (6 songs + 3 songs) – Crime of the Century: Bloody Well Right / Hide In Your Shell / Dreamer / Rudy / School / Crime Of The Century – Others: Ain’t Nobody But Me / Breakfast In America / Fool’s Overture *Note: “★” indicates songs exclusive to this tour. “★★” in particular indicates songs not heard on the masterpiece pro-shot “MUNICH 1983”. …and so on. “Crazy” and “Don’t Leave Me Now” are exclusive to this tour, but “Don’t Leave Me Now” in particular is a rare song that wasn’t even on “MUNICH 1983”. The first of the last three performances with Roger Hodgson, and one of Millard’s last works before his mid-career hiatus. Both tracks reach your ears with a beautiful, luminous sound that even surpasses the soundboard recording of ‘MUNICH 1983’. It’s a shame that five tracks are missing, but this is a cultural heritage album that allows you to experience the truth of SUPERTRAMP on the brink of collapse through the Millard sound. A superb audience recording of the “Inglewood concert on September 23, 1983”. Millard’s first generation master, it has a directness comparable to a soundboard recording, but its beauty is even greater. This is a cultural heritage album featuring the first of Roger’s last three concerts with the band, including “Don’t Leave Me Now,” a track not even heard on the classic pro-shot recording “MUNICH 1983.” The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA 23rd September 1983 PERFECT SOUND Disc:1 (50:12) 1.
