Description

This release features a refined version of the superb audience recordings that are a tradition of the “IN THE FLESH Tour,” comparable to the legendary “ULTIMATE BOSTON 1977” and “ULTIMATE OAKLAND.” This particular recording permanently preserves the “July 2, 1977 Madison Square Garden performance,” a truly legendary audience recording. This recording is one of the most iconic and highly regarded sources from the “IN THE FLESH Tour,” and the stereo master has spawned numerous reissues since the early days of the CD era. This release is a new masterpiece, surpassing the previous longest and finest recordings. Before delving into the content, let’s first examine the show’s position within the tour’s history. As part of organizing our collection, let’s take a look at the band’s activities at the time. 《January 21st: “Animals” released》・January 23rd – February 4th: Europe #1 (9 shows) ← *DORTMUND 1977 2ND NIGHT etc.・February 17th – March 1st: Europe #2 (11 shows) ← *PARIS 1977 3RD NIGHT etc.・March 15th – 31st: UK (9 shows) ← *WEMBLEY 1977 1ST NIGHT etc.・April 22nd – May 12th: North America #1 (12 shows) ← *ULTIMATE OAKLAND etc.・June 15th – July 6th: North America #2 (14 shows) ← ★HERE★ This is the overall picture of the “IN THE FLESH Tour”. It is roughly divided into two parts: the first half = Europe / the second half = North America, and each leg has been archived with a number of outstanding masterpieces. Among them, the most fiercely contested is “North America #2” at the end. Let’s take a closer look at the schedule. Details of “North America #2” – June 15th + 17th (2 shows) * June 19th ‘CHICAGO 1977’ – June 21st + 23rd (2 shows) * June 25th ‘ONE FLEW OVER THE BOARD (Cleveland)’ * June 27th ‘ULTIMATE BOSTON 1977’ – June 28th: Philadelphia show * June 29th ‘PHILADELPHIA 1977 2ND NIGHT’ – July 1st: MSG show (first day) * July 2nd: MSG show (second day) ←★This release★ * July 3rd ‘MSG 1977 3RD NIGHT’ * July 4th ‘MSG 1977 FINAL NIGHT’ * July 6th ‘ROAR ENDS (Montreal)’ The iconic recording from the end of the IN THE FLESH Tour has been upgraded…and so on. Eight live albums were born from 14 performances, but the highlight was the four consecutive shows at the large New York venue, Madison Square Garden. The second day in particular is known for producing an iconic recording, and along with the Boston performance, it has reigned as a symbol of the final stages of the “IN THE FLESH Tour.” The main source for this album is that traditional masterpiece recording. It is an ultra-clear and direct masterpiece recording that is often mentioned alongside “ULTIMATE BOSTON 1977” and “ULTIMATE OAKLAND,” and “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has polished the best existing master of it. In fact, the sound is truly the best ever. “GRAF ZEPPELIN’s” methodology is, so to speak, supreme on the sound of the actual performance. Rather than trying to cover up flaws with indiscriminate sound pressure or brute force, they repair the scratches on the master that have been etched by time to the greatest extent possible. Each type of noise is meticulously treated, balance adjustments are made based on bandwidth analysis, and pitch/phase corrections are performed without allowing even a 1/1000th of a second of error. The goal is to maximize the potential of the recording itself and recreate “the sound that was heard at the time.” In other words, it is a process similar in approach to the restoration of paintings or cultural artifacts, and this work fully embodies that design philosophy. A full live album that breaks the previous record by four minutes. However, this recording already has superb sound quality. Although it has been meticulously refined, it is not as if it has been “reborn as something completely different.” In this case, the upgrade in “length” may be more noticeable. The main focus of this work is the famous stereo recording, but in fact, there is also a separate mono recording of the same show. In previous releases, some parts were secretly used to fill in gaps, but in this work, the entire show has been re-checked down to the second to find any missing parts. The aim is to maximize the extension. When actually thoroughly checked, there were surprisingly many parts that could be filled in, and as a result, the record for the longest album has been broken by about four minutes compared to previous releases. While the performance parts were naturally filled in on previous masters, this time the filling mainly focuses on the gaps between songs. What’s particularly significant is that the second part of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” on DISC 2 is recorded from before the performance, and the encore section is also recorded at considerable length. The sound check section after “Money” is also included, further enhancing the completeness of the live experience. You might think, “Oh, it’s just the gaps between songs,” but don’t underestimate it. After all, this recording is from the final stages of the historic “IN THE FLESH Tour.” As has often been said, the atmosphere, with firecrackers exploding everywhere, was filled with a palpable tension, and Roger’s frustration grew as the show progressed. The mood of the live performance, which would later lead into “THE WALL,” is historically important, even if only in terms of the intensity between songs. A traditional recording of the second day at MSG that has been loved for many years. This is the latest version of a long-running classic that has reigned supreme as the pinnacle of the “IN THE FLESH Tour,” alongside “ULTIMATE BOSTON 1977” and “ULTIMATE OAKLAND.” This new masterpiece combines the highest level of mastering achieved through the meticulous work of “GRAF ZEPPELIN” with the longest recording ever, thanks to the addition of supplementary sources. This is the legendary stereo audience recording of the “MSG performance on July 2, 1977.” This renowned recording, long known as one of the best from the “IN THE FLESH Tour,” has been polished to the highest level by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” with meticulous mastering. With the addition of supplementary sources, this is the longest version ever, approximately 4 minutes longer than before, allowing you to experience this historic live performance in the ultimate way.
