Description

The band known as “90125 YES,” which achieved great success in the 80s after a bold transformation, now has a newly unearthed recording that lets you experience their live performances. This recording captures their Seattle concert on April 3, 1984, and is a superb audience recording. YES’s entire career is covered, and their resurgence with “90125” is also popular. To help organize my collection, let’s first take a look at their activities at the time and then explore the position of this recording. 1983 (November 11th, “90125” released) 1984 – February 28th to May 15th: North America #1 (62 shows) ←★HERE★ – June 11th to July 26th: Europe (32 shows) ←※DEFINITIVE DORTMUND etc. – August 9th to October 1st: North America #2 (41 shows) ←※Official 9012LIVE etc. 1985 – January 17th to February 9th: South America (6 shows) ←※BUENOS AIRES 1985 (November 7th, “9012LIVE: THE SOLOS” released) This is YES during the “90125” era. The official “9012LIVE” was mainly recorded at the Edmonton shows towards the end of “North America #2”, but the Seattle show on this release was a scene from “North America #1”, about six months earlier. This “North America #1” period was previously only documented through audience recordings and professional footage, such as “SO THE STORY GOES (Sirene-222)”. Let’s focus on the dates here: Details of “North America #1” – February 28th – March 5th (5 shows) * March 6th “SO THE STORY GOES (Cedar Rapids recording)” – March 7th – April 2nd (22 shows) * April 3rd: Seattle show ←★This release★ – April 4th – May 14th (32 shows) * May 15th “SO THE STORY GOES (Landbar video)” Fresh sound thanks to newly discovered original master recordings This release, which vacuum-packs such shows, is a new masterpiece for the previously scarce “North America #1” period, unearthed by renowned collector Lucifer Burns and based on the original master recordings. This is a fresh yet rich audience recording, not the kind you’d mistake for a soundboard recording, but it doesn’t feel distant either. A thick, full sound dominates the entire performance, pouring down with plenty of dynamism. Usually, a slightly thicker sound can create a sense of distance, but that’s not the case here. The core is powerful and dense, so the sound works in its favor, becoming a unified whole, and coming at you like a wall of symphonic rock. Moreover, the more you listen carefully, the more you notice that the details are well preserved. Not only the vocals and guitar, but even the bass, which is often buried, is meticulously rendered down to each individual attack, and you can clearly feel the groove created by the way they come together. A full show packed with songs not heard on the official 9012LIVE This dynamic master sound captures the full show of “90125 YES,” which was reborn with pop elements while maintaining a highly refined ensemble. Let’s summarize the contents here. Lonely Heart (8 songs + α) – Cinema / Leave It (*) / Hold On / Hearts (★) / Changes / Owner Of A Lonely Heart (Make It Easy) / It Can Happen (*) / City of Love Classics (7 songs + α) – Third Album: Yours is no Disgrace (★) / I’ve Seen All Good People / Starship Trooper – Others: And You And I (★) / Long Distance Runaround (★) / Roundabout – Solo Time: Kaye & Rabin Solos / Soon / Whitefish / Amazing Grace *Note: “★” indicates songs not heard on the official ‘9012LIVE’. “*” indicates songs exclusive to this tour. …and so on. The core is the hit album ‘90125’, and the inclusion of “Hearts,” which is not heard on the official release, is a nice bonus. In particular, “Leave It” and “It Can Happen” are exclusive songs that have not been performed since this tour. Classics like “Yours is no Disgrace,” “And You And I,” and “Long Distance Runaround,” as well as other epic tracks not heard on the official “9012LIVE,” are revived with an 80s-style ensemble. This is a newly unearthed recording from the original master unearthed by renowned collector Lucifer Burns. A full show with rich and dynamic sound has been added to the previously scarce “North America #1.” This is an exquisite audience recording of the “April 3, 1984 Seattle performance.” The rich and dynamic sound from the original master unearthed by renowned collector Lucifer Burns is superb. You can experience the full show of their resurgence, including songs not heard on the official “9012LIVE.” Center Coliseum, Seattle, WA, USA 3rd April 1984Disc:1 (68:43) 1. Cinema 2. Leave It 3.
