Description
‘BURNING AT THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM 1972′, a highly acclaimed reissue of a classic TMOQ analog LP, is a masterpiece that captures a small gig from 1972 that can only be heard on this album, even after more than 50 years. The work done to create a clean and natural CD version of this classic was truly outstanding. After all, it was released in 1972. Even the original TMOQ is difficult to reproduce cleanly, so not only is it difficult to create a natural CD version, but it is also difficult to create a CD version without scratch noise. As evidence of this, previous CD versions of this album showed signs of struggling to reduce scratch noise to varying degrees, but this is where GRAF ZEPPELIN’s superb CD reissue is on another level. The 2023 version, released as a flawless CD version, has long since sold out. It’s all the more appealing to be able to easily enjoy a TMOQ masterpiece that’s extremely rare both in terms of its material and content, and without the annoyance of scratch noise. The long-sold masterpiece “BURNING AT THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM 1972” is being re-released, but because it was already perfectly finished when it was released in 2023, there was nothing for the producer, “GRAF ZEPPELIN,” to do any further work, and the content remains the same as the previous release. If it’s in such a listenable state, then there’s certainly no need to revise it further. What this remarkably clean CD reissue conveys is the dynamism unique to the small gigs that took place during the peak 1972 tour, also known as the “Stones Touring Party.” Certainly, the sound quality is mono, and the recording quality is not as outstanding as other masterpieces released by TMOQ during this period. Nevertheless, it is also true that it ranks among the best audience recordings of the entire 1972 tour. Despite being a small gig, the recording is unique in that it doesn’t pick up the surrounding noise, yet the sound image is close. Above all, it captures the brilliance of the Stones’ exhilarating performance. This is the secret to the high popularity of this recording, which is by no means a model recording. After this, the Stones began to actively perform small gigs in America from 1978 onwards, but the fact that they already performed small gigs on their 1972 tour and that these performances were recorded on this TMOQ album is extremely valuable. This small gig at the Hollywood Palladium, which took place just six days into the tour, stands out for the quality of the performance compared to the shows before and after it, and you can feel that the Stones, who were already accustomed to playing in arenas, were genuinely enjoying this gig. As a result, the opening track “Brown Sugar” is full of energy. And the performances of “Gimme Shelter” and “Midnight Rambler,” which were masterpieces of that day, are superb. Thus, the definitive 1972 Hollywood Palladium performance, a timeless masterpiece from TMOQ, has been re-released in a clean CD format. It even includes the news report of Mick’s arrest in Boston right at the beginning. Not only is the LP difficult to obtain, but it’s also a vintage LP that’s hard to hear with clear sound, and “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has brilliantly compiled this masterpiece of the 1972 tour. This time, the font on the jacket is in the style of the TMOQ stamp cover! Directly digitized and mastered from the vintage original TMOQ master LP (matrix number RS 522 A/B)! ★The VGP version had high-frequency noise components drastically cut, the mid-range boosted, and the bass quite rumbling, resulting in a somewhat artificial texture lacking depth, but this version has been mastered to give a sufficient analog feel, retaining the high frequencies while pinpointing the removal of scratch noise. Since it’s not a process that muffles the overall sound to mask the noise, the scratch noise has been removed while maintaining almost the texture of the analog record. Originally, the sound wasn’t particularly good in terms of separation, but listening to it like this, it’s fortunate that the performance is close. As an Aud Mono from ’72, it’s a perfectly “listenable” mono Aud recording, and you can listen to it in no time.
