Description

Mike Millard’s project to unearth his original masters, which was thought to have ended in 2024, has been unexpectedly restarted! The first discovery is a new recording from U2’s “ZOO TV Tour.” This recording captures the “April 13, 1992 Los Angeles concert (Day 2).” It’s a superb audience recording by the absolute master, Millard. The “ZOO TV Tour” is a period when Millard produced many masterpieces. The classic albums “LOS ANGELES 1992 1ST NIGHT” and “SAN DIEGO APRIL 1992” are also well-known classics. So, what is the position of this work within that context? Let’s start by exploring the overview of their activities at the time. February 29th – April 23rd, 1992: North America #1 (32 shows) ←★Here★ May 7th – June 19th, 1992: Europe #1 (25 shows) ←※Rotterdam August 7th – November 25th, 1992: North America #2 (47 shows) ←※Washington May 9th – August 28th, 1993: Europe #2 (43 shows) ←※Goffertpark November 12th – December 4th, 1993: Oceania (8 shows) ←※Official footage December 9th + 10th: Japan (2 shows) This is U2 in 1992/1993. The Los Angeles performance in this work was part of the early “North America #1” tour. In fact, Millard’s works are concentrated in this “North America #1” tour. Now, let’s focus on the dates and check the relative positions of each work. Details of “North America #1” – February 29th – April 10th (24 performances) * April 12th: “LOS ANGELES 1992 1ST NIGHT” * April 13th: Los Angeles performance (2nd day) ←★This work★ * April 15th: “SAN DIEGO APRIL 1992” – April 17th – 23rd (5 performances) A trilogy of sisters recorded by the absolute master Millard. As you can see, Millard undertook continuous recordings over three days: April 12th, 13th, and 15th. The first and third days were unearthed in 2020 and 2021, but the second day in Los Angeles was overlooked (apparently it was mistaken for the first day’s recording). After a long slumber, this secret recording was unearthed in 2026. One piece of the puzzle had fallen into place. This work, which vacuum-packs the atmosphere of that performance, is truly a masterpiece from the absolute master. It’s no surprise, given that it’s the same venue and the same recording engineer, but it truly deserves to be called a sister album to the masterpiece released the previous day, “LOS ANGELES 1992 1ST NIGHT.” Around this time, Millard was experimenting with DAT recording, and the directness of the core sound and the crisp contours are simply superb, as is the exceptional clarity of the transparent atmosphere that is characteristic of Millard. In truth, it’s true that the resolution of the deep bass is a step below its sister album, but that’s in reference to the highest standard of the “Millard Trilogy.” A full show that bridges the gap between the sister masterpieces: The Millard DAT sound depicts a full show that is subtly different from both before and after the trilogy. Let’s break down the setlist while also comparing it to its sister album. Actong Baby and others (10 songs) – Zoo Station / The Fly / Even Better Than The Real Thing / Mysterious Ways / One / Until The End Of The World / Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses / Tryin’ To Throw Your Arms Around The World / Ultraviolet (Light My Way) (*) / Love Is Blindness Others (11 songs) – Homura: Bad / Pride (In The Name Of Love) – Joshua Tree: Bullet The Blue Sky / Running To Stand Still / Where The Streets Have No Name / I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For / With Or Without You – Soul’s Cry: Angel Of Harlem / Desire (*) – Cover: Dancing Queen (★: ABBA) / Satellite Of Love (Lou Reed) *Note: “★” indicates Millard’s sister album ‘LOS ANGELES 1992 1ST NIGHT’, and “*” indicates ‘SAN DIEGO This is a collection of songs that weren’t included in “APRIL 1992”. …and so on. What’s noteworthy is that there are songs that weren’t on the first day’s show or the San Diego show three days later. The ABBA cover “Dancing Queen,” which wasn’t on the first day’s show, makes an appearance, and “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)” and “Desire,” which weren’t on the San Diego show, are also included. In other words, by collecting all three volumes, you can experience the evolution of the setlist through the Millard sound. This is a surprising reboot of the Millard master discovery project, which was thought to have ended in 2024. The final piece has fallen into place between the first day’s show and the San Diego show, which have been cherished as masterpieces. The Millard “ZOO TV Tour” trilogy is now complete. This is a superb audience recording of the Los Angeles show on April 13, 1992 (Day 2). This is the first recording by the absolute master Mike Millard, and the middle part of a trilogy that includes the classic albums ‘LOS ANGELES 1992 1ST NIGHT’ and ‘SAN DIEGO APRIL 1992′. With Millard’s signature sound, featuring excellent high-pitched clarity and a great sense of atmosphere, you can experience a full show that is similar to, yet distinct from, its sister works.
