Description
A new masterpiece has arrived in the newly unearthed soundboard series that will engrave live performances like no one has ever heard before into your brain. Two lengthy live albums that will instantly redefine the standards of the series are set to be released simultaneously! This first-ever soundboard recording will reveal the truth of the South American tour, and permanently preserved in this release is the “January 27, 1983 Rio de Janeiro” performance. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording. With so many unprecedented soundboard releases, some of you may be thinking “Again?”, but these two consecutive releases are generating buzz in terms of both quality and content. Before getting to the shocking content, let’s first look at the show’s position. We will leave the overview of their activities at the time to the explanation in “PORTO ALEGRE 1983 1ST NIGHT SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 845)”, which will be released simultaneously, but here let’s organize our collection by focusing on 1983, when Van Halen’s only South American tour took place. 1983: “NO PROBLEM Tour” [Venezuela] – January 14: Caracas (first day) * January 15: “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD” * January 16: “CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD (partial)” [Brazil] * January 21: “SAO PAULO 1983 1ST NIGHT SOUNDBOARD” – January 22: São Paulo (second day) – January 23: São Paulo (third day) – January 26: Rio de Janeiro (first day) * January 27: Rio de Janeiro (second day) ←★This work★ – January 29: Belo Horizonte performance? * February 1: “PORTO ALEGRE 1983 1ST NIGHT SOUNDBOARD” – February 2: Porto Alegre (second day)? [Uruguay] February 5: Uruguay performance [Argentina] February 11 + 12: Argentina (2 performances) [USA] May 29: US Festival appearance If you’re thinking “Wait a minute?” here, you’re sharp. In fact, the tour schedule has been drastically revised due to the ongoing new discovery series. When the Caracas and São Paulo recordings were discovered, the schedule information was updated, but this time, with Rio/Porto Alegre, even the number of performances has been changed. The existence of a Belo Horizonte performance, which was previously unknown, has now been mentioned (although there is a theory that the second day of Belo Horizonte/Porto Alegre was canceled). A lengthy live album capturing the entire show with two 90-minute tapes Now, this work, recorded on the “second day in Rio,” is also top-notch in content. As before, it is a soundboard recording made by a person named “Roy,” the engineer at the time, directly connected to the mixing console, but this time the recording time is incredible! Most of the series was recorded on “one 90-minute tape,” and the total length was around 94 minutes. In contrast, this album was recorded on “two 90-minute tapes” and is a “nearly full live album” with a total length of approximately 107 minutes!! Of course, the number of tracks is also enormous. Let’s take a look at it in comparison to the previous albums in the series. The Fuse of Fire (6 songs) – Runnin’ With the Devil / Jamie’s Cryin’ / Little Dreamer (★) / Ice Cream Man / Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love / You Really Got Me (Happy Trails) Diver Down (7 songs) – The Full Bug / Little Guitars / Where Have All the Good Times Gone! / Cathedral / Secrets / Intruder / (Oh) Pretty Woman Others (8 songs + α) – The Legendary Bomber: Dance the Night Away / Somebody Get Me A Doctor (I’m So Glad) / Bottoms Up! – Others: Romeo Delight / Unchained / Mean Street (★) / God Bless The Child (★★) / Everybody Wants Some!! / Heartbreak Hotel (★★) *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not included in the 1982 edition of the newly unearthed soundboard series. In particular, the tracks marked with “★★” were not included in the South American editions, ‘CARACAS 1983 SOUNDBOARD’ and ‘SAO PAULO 1983 1ST NIGHT SOUNDBOARD’. …And so it goes. While the recordings in the South American editions, ‘CARACAS 1983’ and ‘SAO PAULO 1983 1ST NIGHT’, were all relatively short, this one is a massive 107 minutes long. There is a gap at the end of “Runnin’ With The Devil,” so it’s not perfect, but it’s almost a complete recording, making it only the second such achievement in the entire series, the first being ‘FORT WAYNE 1982′ from “North America #1”. Up until now, they had been pausing frequently as if to conserve tape, but this one was recorded almost continuously. This album features incredibly rare covers, such as Billie Holiday’s “God Bless The Child,” which premiered on this day, and “Heartbreak Hotel,” which was unfortunately omitted from the recording of “SAO PAULO 1983 1ST NIGHT,” all delivered with a direct-to-the-brain soundboard recording. The biggest and only drawback of the previously unearthed soundboard series was the “short recording time.” This album is a shocking first-time live album that overcomes even that drawback. This two-disc set is an absolute must-listen for both completers who have followed the series so far and those who have given up. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording of the “January 27, 1983 Rio de Janeiro” performance. Recorded by the engineer at the time, it is a direct-to-the-mixer soundboard recording and is an almost full live album with a total length of approximately 107 minutes. This is a shocking soundboard album that directly delivers to your brain rare covers such as Billie Holiday’s “God Bless The Child” (which premiered on this day) and Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel.” Ginasio do Maracanazinho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 27th January 1983 Disc:1 (67:36) 1.
