Description
This approximately one-hour compilation features rare footage, primarily from the September 17, 1979 US tour concert at Madison Square Garden in New York, based on recently unearthed 8mm film. The footage, shot by an enthusiastic fan on an 8mm camera at the time, begins with the members of The Who returning to their hotel the day before the show. The main footage from the September 17th concert is not only shot from an astonishing angle for 8mm film from the audience, but also captures a mishap where Pete hits his right hand on his guitar while performing his signature windmill technique in “Who Are You,” forcing Kenny to fill the gap with a drum solo. The footage also includes scenes of Roger borrowing Pete’s Les Paul and playing the guitar, and the band getting the audience to sing along to “My Generation” to fill time—scenes that are truly characteristic of The Who at that time. As a bonus, it also includes 8mm footage of a live performance in Indianapolis during their 1982 US tour. While the video quality is somewhat lacking, given that it was filmed before VHS tapes were even common, it’s a valuable historical record worth watching for fans. 1. Intro 2.
