Description
This release captures the full 1 hour and 55 minute performance from July 19, 1999, at the annual Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival in France—a truly precious period in Hancock’s long career—using a remastered soundboard recording from the FM radio broadcast. The setlist is almost entirely from his album “Gershwin World,” released the previous year, and is rare as live recordings of this album are scarce. Furthermore, the album was produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin’s birth, so most of the tracks are Gershwin compositions. The remaining songs are also related to Gershwin, resulting in a performance entirely different from his previous live shows. The second half features a guest vocalist, adding to the richness of the performance. This rare collector’s edition, a complete live recreation of “Gershwin World,” which won a Grammy that year, is a must-have for fans.
