Description
A truly dream collaboration! This November 28th live performance, held in Tokyo in November 2008, featured the lavishly-formed Dream Band, comprised of Terry Bozzio, Pat Mastelotto, Tony Levin, and Allan Holdsworth. This stunning audience recording captures the second day of the three-day limited-time concert. The highlight of the set was a three-song improvisation jam: one first set, one second set, and one encore. (Each song lasted 30-40 minutes, and the dynamic progressions were so fast-paced that the tracks were split up at optimal intervals.) As Terry Bozzio’s MC after the first set made clear, there was no rehearsal or pre-planning. Each player responded to the other’s playing with no set end in sight. The thrilling improvisation battle was as intense as witnessing a real battle of wits. All three days, released simultaneously on the Wildlife label, were mastered with excellent recording quality, but the recordings from Day 2 stand out among them, with a clearly defined, high-quality sound. The clarity of each instrument and the powerful bass are impressive, delivering a rich sound reminiscent of the recent Crimson sound. Of course, the improvisational battles between the four virtuoso musicians unfolded completely differently on each day, and each is a valuable record that could only have been produced on this very day. These three titles are must-listen titles for any fan.
