Description

A truly dream collaboration! This November 27th live performance, held in Tokyo in November 2008, featured the lavishly-formed Dream Band, comprised of Terry Bozzio, Pat Mastelotto, and Tony Levin, joined by Allan Holdsworth. This stunning audience recording captures the first day of the three-day limited-time concert. The highlight of the set was a three-song improvisation jam: one first set, one second set, and one encore. (Each song lasted 30-40 minutes, and the dynamic progressions were so fast-paced that the tracks were split up at optimal intervals.) As Terry Bozzio’s MC after the first set made clear, there was no rehearsal or pre-planning. Each player responded to the other’s playing with no set end in sight. The thrilling improvisation battle was as intense as witnessing a real battle of wits. All three days of simultaneous releases use masters with excellent recording quality, but the sound source from the first day features Allan Holdsworth’s guitar sound, which is very close and powerful, making it a must-have title for Alan fans. Of course, the improvisation battle between the four virtuoso musicians unfolds completely differently each day, and all of these are valuable records that could only have been produced on this site over these three days, so these are three must-listen titles that fans will want to keep.
